Synopsis A country of huge scenic diversity, India is a birdwatcher's paradise and a popular tourist destination. The many species found in India and Nepal range from the mighty Great Indian Buzzard to a dazzling Purple-rumped Sunbird.Ideal for the travelling birdwatcher, this useful guide provides a comprehensive overview of the wide variety of birdlife to be found in Costa Rica. Over 250 native species are included in the book, each description supported by a clear colour photograph taken where possible in the bird's natural habitat. As well as the commoner species likely to be encountered - colourful birds such as the Gold-fronted Leafbird, Red Munia and Monal Pheasant - the guide also focuses on some of the rarer, and in some cases highly endangered, species such as the Black-necked Crane. About the Author Bikram Grewal is a leading ornithologist specializing in birds from India and its surrounding areas. Currently based in Delhi, Bikram has written a strong backlist of titles detailing various bird species found in and around his homeland.

It does what it says on the cover.
I was tempted to buy this little book as the cover price meant that even if it was not really what I wanted I would not be spending too much. I did a 'bundle' with other books so that I got so-called free delivery. It has arrived and is really quite a pleasing little book. Handy enough to carry around and it will prove a great aid to the casual bird watcher in place of a weightier tome. In this the author is to be commended. Of course with 1200 species of Indian bird not all are going to be in a book this size and they are'n't. No matter. It will be useful to give someone a good grounding on a short holiday which is the market it is aimed at.Pictures are mostly good (It is damned hard to get some clear shots as I know.)The only thing I would put on the 'improvement' list is the location maps. Light Grey areas on a white map are difficult to see. Colour may add a bit to processing/printing so if sticking to monochrome then the toner needs darkening. Even black would be preferable. But Bikram has done a creditable job for the money. I like it enough to recommend it to those folk visiting the sub continent to do more than lay on a beach, shin up a mountain or gaze at monuments

Not detailed enough
There is nothing wrong with this book, but there are a lot of birds that we saw in the Goa region that are missing. It is well illustrated but not sure what market it is targeting. If you are wanting to identify most of the birds you see then try Helms birds of the Indian subcontinent
