Yes, it has internal over-discharge protection provided by an internal charge circuit PCB. The same PCB that regulates the heat, light and charging.

Q: I didn't see anywhere in the description if this is a two-sided warmer, or is it just one side that gets warm?

It's not getting warmed.I live in San Diego and I took the nand warmer to outside.It never got warmed irrespective how long I waited.Inside of room, it gets warmed a little.

Q: Can the battery be replaced if it becomes faulty ? if yes is it available in market ?

The rechargeable batteries will likely outlast two of your phones under normal use (ie. 5+ years, easily). When the time comes, you will have to have a repair technician replace the internal batteries. It uses two readily available Samsung Lithium-Ion 2800mAh 18650 batteries that are soldered in (ICR18650-28A). It is cost effective to have the batteries replaced. If you do decide to throw away, please drop it off at a recycling center because of the Lithium-Ion batteries. Or, sell it on eBay and I will buy it!

Q: What is the weight of the unit of the 8400 mAhn and 5600 mAhn?

Don't know the exact weight. A bit heavy but a really nice feel. And it works very well. Better than other models I have tried.
