These DVDs are region 2 from the UK
Did not know this was a region 2 dvd. Thankfully I can play it on my ps4. Otherwise I would've been completely out of luck.

Not a standard DVD, in a bad way.
While the DVD -technically- works fine and the quality and all that is there, it either will straight up not work with most DVD players, or require your DVD player (like my PS4) to "switch modes," but it will only switch modes 3 times, and if it's in the mode to play THIS DVD, it can't play ANY OF YOUR OTHER "NORMAL" ONES, so you'll have to switch it again. If you decide "Oh, I wanna watch the original 1997 Berserk!" again after that, it'll switch and you'll be stuck on the new mode, because you only get 3 changes (No this didn't happen to me, I just mathed out the awfulness of this possibility when I first saw the warning)

A great introduction to Kentaro Miura's dark fantasy series
For people unsure if they'd be interested in the long-winded manga series by Kentaro Miura, this is a great introduction to the basic setup of Berserk's origin story. It's gruesome, it's depressing, but all the characters are well-written and well-developed.There are some notable omissions of certain important characters, but it's made up for with some additional character development that only serves to further flesh certain characters out a bit more than they were in the original manga. The animation can seem kind of stiff and low budget, but it's made up for by very tactical use of beautiful stills and some excellent music by Susumu Hirasawa (Satoshi Kon's Paprika, Millennium Actress, Paranoia Agent) to enhance the atmosphere. This is also one of the few Japanese animé where I could full-heartedly recommend watching the English dub: rather than the Disney versions of some Studio Ghibli films, these aren't generally movie actors as much as stage actors with a good resumé and great emotional depth. The original Japanese voices are also still very much worth it, but I'll say that you won't be suffering if you do decide to watch this series with the English voices.Particularly Jon Avner's narrations stand out to me in just how dark and cynical they sound, but Kevin T. Collins as the handsome Griffith and Marc Diraison as Guts make for a fine duo of protagonists with plenty of range in their performances. That said, I would recommend this as an introduction to the series but not as representative of the whole. It ends at a point that's been long surpassed by the Japanese graphic novels, so if you want to continue the story or perhaps read it in full, that's going to be the medium I recommend the most. But of all the animé adaptations of Berserk? This is my favourite.

One of the best Animés you'll ever watch!!!
This is by far one of the best Animés I've seen to date. The story, the action and the artwork is simply awe-inspiring - I was totally blown away by this.Without going into too much detail and giving any of the story away if you like Manga, lots of action, a very well thought out story with great character development, humor, oh yes and lots of blood then look no further! This is officially my favorite ever Manga!!! BUY IT - you won't be disappointed!!!

Wicked Berserk collection!
Wicked collection of Berserk. It is the original, which I prefer as the story is more detailed than the movies. The DVD's are placed nicely inside the box, it's not too hard to get them out and they all worked brilliantly. Would recommend this collection to any Berserk fan!I always prefer to watch anime with Japanese original voices and English subtitles.

berserk anime and manga
Having watched this anime and then read the manga I can say the anime fleshes out the character and relationships in a posative way that delivers a richer experiance. Also the manga is way more shocking so if you want an amazing story with only a bucketful of gore, not 10 buckets then the anime is for you. The manga delivers more epic battles and truly terrifying demons.

One of the greatest anime (apart from the ending)
Berserk is a fantastic series, but WARNING: it is dark. Berserk is very, VERY dark, dealing with such themes as rape and pedophilia.Sadly, much like the three current film adaptations, it does miss out content that was shown in the manga, but it's not enough to harm the enjoyment of the show. I would highly recommend reading the manga after (or even instead of) this show or the three current film adaptations. The show covers the first half of The Black Swordsman Arc, and The Golden Age Arc EXCEPT THE ENDING. That is the biggest point of criticism that this show has, the fact that it basically doesn't end. The three current film adaptations cover just The Golden Age Arc, including the ending. However, I would not recommend the films over the TV series, as they are plagued with horrible, jarring CGI and miss out major plot points in the second film.
