Lots of light
My son is Orthodox & wanted a small lamp for Shabbos that he didnt need a timer for. This is perfect for his bedroom. It gives off enough light for him to see what he is doing, to read & anything else he wants to do. He has a roommate too who is religious & they share the same bedroom. It gives off enough light for both of themWhen he wants darkness, he just revolves the outer layer to cover the light. There is nothing to turn off & it's great for Shabbos & Yom Tov.

I works the way it was designed.
I can read at night without bothering my husband. I can control the amount of light I want/need and just turn the top and the light is totally off without using electricity to turn it off or on. I have one in every room of my home including the bathrooms. This particular one was a gift for a family where I was staying at. I give these as shower and/or wedding gifts all the time.

From light to darkness on the Sabbath.
If you want to make a dark room bright on a Shabbos night, this will do it.

Great for Shabbat
Works well, light is bright. I use it every week for Shabbat and I am happy with how it gets dark when I turn it

Cute little device, has flaws...
I like this lamp. It's a stupid-simple idea hearkening back to the old kerosene lamps, but it's really a nice thing for us shabbos-observant folk. I've found it useful on many occasions already, because I don't have to worry about setting timers exactly for when people are going to go to sleep. This is nice, for example, if you have a guest sleeping over, and you'd like them to be able to "turn off" the light according to their own sleep time, and not plunge them into darkness in a strange environment. (You may still want to set a late-timer just to save electricity, so the lamp does not burn the whole night.)My problem is that the light is fairly minimal, and the angle is *very poor* for reading. Generally, for reading, you want the light shining *down* on the page. However, this lamp is like having a bare bulb sitting right on the table next to the book. The angle of the light is wrong, and you are constantly distracted by the bright light inches from your eyes. So, it's really pretty bad for reading. I hope the company can address this in another version, and change the angle of the light projected.
