DGT 3000 Chess & Game Clock Bundled with Art of War CD

I bought this clock to replace my DGT XL. It has a larger display which I love. It also works well with my DGT USB Chessboard. The clock will display the number of moves till the time limit is met, all you need to do if you want to see the number of moves is press the # button on the front of the clock and it will display the moves. Not sure if the other reviewer of this clock knew that. Due to the fact that the DGT 3000 Chess clock has a plastic housing, I would say that this clock is better suited for casual long time controlled or tournament games. This is a good chess clock to take to tournament chess events, that said I would not use the clock for playing speed chess out in the parks. If you are looking for a chess clock to play that type of chess then I would choose the Chronos Chess Clock or the Duel Timer Champion Touch Chess Clock. I own both of these chess clocks as well, and can tell you they are better built for park play.

This is a good clock to keep on hand for practice so you can get used to time controls for OTB. What I do is I play with my electronic chessboard that connects to my chess.com account and I play bots to simulate a real OTB timing experience, even though bot moves are instant, I still treat it the same with no timing odds. Just get used to making a move and clock in your move whether it's clock or touch move. The one thing that I was disappointed is that in ordering this it never came with the Art of War CD so I don't know if they trying to just pay only for the clock and not the CD or they forgot to include it? All that matters is that I have the most important tool in my chess career and that's the clock.

I really do like it, and I was looking forward to have it. The clock has all the preset modes one could want, along with several custom settings. The lever mechanism feels precise and firm. The display is large and shows seconds all the time. Although the body is made of plastic, it does not feel flimsy or cheap.I paid a economy shippment, and took a while to have it, but very good value and excellent customer service as well.

This is a nice clock. It is fairly easy to program and useMy only complaint concerns the pre-programmed settings. When I was considering which clock to buy, I was impressed by the large number of pre-programmed settings. I did not realize that there are several different ways of adding time. In the USA, there is a 5-second count down before the clock starts. There are two slightly different ways of doing this pre-count so many of the settings are not suited to Tournaments in the US. In addition, the default for quite a few programs is a "freeze" ending for the end of the game. I would prefer the "freeze" but it is not standard for USCF. You can program around these problems, but it is an inconvenience.

Amazing clock, instructions weren't great but after watching a 5 minute youtube video I'm able to use this thing like a pro. Has great action, and every format under the sun...would highly recommend this clock.

I was disappointed that clock did not check the number of moves when the time limit is met. Then only then drop the flag indicating a time fault.

Normally I make my purchases with Amazon. This time I went with the House of Staunton and purchased the DGT 3000 as part of a chess bundle. Right out of the box the LCD screen was quite dim. I thought that was true for all those chess clocks until yesterday when I compared my clock with a friend's. I have since tried to changed batteries but to no avail. The screen remains quite dim and quite difficult to read. For a clock I had paid for over $100 this is simply unacceptable!

The clock has a nice display and the lever works well. Programming is pretty easy. My problems are with the pre-set time controls and the delay option. I have a Game Timer which I think has better features, although it is a bit small and the buttons can break off after some wear and tear. On this clock, using a delay adds the time to your clock and counts down on the main display. So, if you are playing say, G90 with a 5 sec delay, your clock display would read 1:30:05 when you start the clock. If you move faster than 5 seconds, the time won't change. If you use say, 6 seconds to move, the clock display would read 1:30:04 after you move because the clock always adds 5 seconds to whatever time you have remaining. It is not cumulative with a delay and that's correct, just a little different when you are used to a separate display for the delay countdown. Using the Fischer increment is more confusing on the preset controls. Let's say you are playing G90 with a 30 sec increment. Using the preset time control (#12) your clock reads 1:30:30 at the beginning and adds 30 seconds with each move. In the tournaments I play here in the U.S. using that time control, the clock should start at 1:30:00, which means I actually had to program the clock to start at 1:29:30 so that when it added the 30 seconds before the game started it would read the correct time.
