four and half if I couldI use my decks for personal meditation and journaling, so the cardstock problem mentioned by other reviewers is not a problem for me. it is a handsome deck, well packaged in a magnetic box (so much better than a cardboard tab box). The deck is also borderless which is a huge plus. It is also a generously sized deck. I was looking for a black and white deck for simplicity (so often I buy decks almost exclusively based on their aesthetic appeal (which has lead to me buying some "shallow" decks -- this is far from a shallow deck!). Although this isn't black and white, when I saw it I knew it fit the uncluttered and straightforward approach I was looking for. I have two relatively minor quibbles. All the bodies look young and slim. I would have preferred a wider range of age and body type, fortunately ethnicity is not a factor because the figures are all silhouettes. Second, although I love the contemporary feel of the artwork, I'm not a fan of the chariot card (skateboarding silhouette) or the temperance card (DJ silhouette), but perhaps that tells me something useful about myself! Great deck -- modern, sophisticated, beautiful, and meaningful. I look forward to working with it!

I got this deck to assist in learning tarot. I have personal blocks on many levels. The modern themes are easier to relate to than the super-symbolic traditional imagery, or the "out-there" abstract interpretations. A DJ for Temperance! Do I stay at a party for the 6am closing set, pull out early when things are just getting started, or <gasp!> stay home?Thats how I'm trying to get the 'gist' of the cards without the foreign symbolic overwhelm. I don't have any background in the spiritual/religious 'isms usually represented in Tarot decks. At the same time, I don't get a mystical sense using this deck. Whatever that means.The cards are thick! The deck is 1.5x deeper than decks of similar dimensions. LOVE that the deck and book can be stored in original packaging and not take up wasted space like some deck/book presentations. Saves headache of figuring out how/where to store.As others said, cards are super shiny slick! As in: good luck shuffling them! Not sure if it's static but these cards stick together more than a metallic edged deck. I can see how the sheen will scuff over time, as other reviews state. If I can get a good shuffle in, that is...And I'm always a fan of artists who have a book with their deck, even if another writes it. Imagery is biased on personal life experience so I prefer to understand the intended meaning, or nuance, from the creator. So much more useful than the 20-language 1-liner descriptions in a thin paper book. So again, with my preference for the box packaging is double awesome.

I am normally partial to more traditional RWS decks, however Spirit Within has such power in the simplicity of its contemporary and urban vibes that I had to give it a try. I love it! I love the chromatic scheme, the use of silhouettes, the cool and upbeat imagery (love the black back of the cards). The companion booklet is little but it goes straight to the heart of each card's meaning and symbolism...much much better than most of the LWB out there. The deck comes in a lovely and sturdy box with magnetic closure. The only problem with these cards is that the cardstock is thinner and flimsier than I expected. A semi-gloss finish graces the cards, but I am not sure the cards would outlast an intensive and prolonged use. Such a cool deck would deserve better quality. All in all, a good deck for beginners and collectors who want a strongly RWS inspired version with a unique and modern look. My deck was delivered earlier than expected. It was in good condition--just one of the corners of the box was scratched.

Very simplistic images but they conveythe tarot meanings quite well. Not a lotof esoteric or extraneous other input. Amsurprised at the depth of reading that isinstantly available with this deck. As youcan see from the Temperance Card it is avery modern scene but you can get the feelingof Temperance from it immediately. And theequally easy to read 4 of cups he is not happywith anything being served up. Here are 2more to look at 8 of pentacles somethingbeing worked on --- 3 of Swords You can seequite easily the pain having been stabbedso once again modern vision easy to read.Nice modern easy to read scenarios all.Kudo's to the creator of this deck.

This deck is a lovely contemporary elegant rendition of the Rider-Waite Tarot. The cards and ‘LWB’ come in a sturdy magnetized lid box so they are well protected. The size of the cards fit the hand well and the glossy card stock makes overhand shuffling very easy. The silhouetted images are lyrical and the simplicity of detail makes for easy reading especially for new Readers/Practitioners (and Seekers). A go-to Tarot deck for sure!

The beauty of this deck is in its simplicity. I say that because it draws you into becoming the focal point of the card by taking the place of the silhouettes. Immersion and relate-ability are prevalent in each card. The other amazing thing is the beauty of the colors in this deck. Pictures of these cards cannot reproduce the effect of seeing the colors of the actual cards in person. These brilliant colors give you immediate intuitive hits that come forth by just gazing at the colors alone. Do yourself a favor and give this deck a try. I believe you won't be disappointed.BTW, if you have been looking for a modern rendition of tarot that may appeal to you or your querents, especially for the younger generation this deck is definitely for you. I am nearly 60 and I love this deck so being young to benefit from this deck is definitely not required. In fact, I noticed that whenever I work with this deck I tend to feel young again.

This is a very modern, minimalist take on the classic RWS tarot. I personally really like the modern images in the deck which are portrayed as silhouettes. For example, the Chariot portrays a young man on a skateboard. For someone starting out in tarot, this deck may not be the best as much of the symbology is not present. However, for the seasoned tarot reader this deck comes highly recommended and I do like it a lot.I give the deck itself 5 stars but I have to give the package itself only 3 stars. The deck arrived sealed in cellophane in the magnetic enclosure box but the handbook was missing. The box itself was not wrapped in cellophane. For this I blame the publisher Schiffer Books rather than Amazon. I personally don't need the handbook so I have not returned this for a replacement but be aware this could happen.All in all, I highly recommend this deck but if you receive a copy with no handbook then return it for a replacement, especially if you are new to Tarot.

If you love the Rider Waite Smith deck and its clones you will love this. Sometimes the RWS can be just a little overwhelming on not so good days.This deck is all in silhouette and scaled down to a minimum image, and, although some of the imagery on certain cards is a bit too cool and clever for me - I can get the joke, and get past it no problem. There is humour here which is probably why I resisted at first and then I realised how terribly serious it had all become. This is a Tarot Chill Pill.When I look at this deck I can feel my brain declutter and relax. Lovely idea, lovely art, lovely colour palate. I don't have many decks but I love every one of them and now I love this too.

Very clear and easy deck to read with for a quick overview. There is an absence of symbols and clutter and this would suit some people’s reading styles. I used this for some client readings but I did not bond with the deck too well, I found myself giving broad brush strokes but the detail was missing. It is mot really a deck for beginners, you need to know Rider-Waite well so that you already have your own associations with the simplified silhouettes of the tarot figures. This deck is designed by a very experienced pro reader, so designed to be used, and most of the cards are instantly recognisable.

Stunning simple allows the intuition to work fully very laminated backs stick together and yet not a thick deck to shuffle colours are very relaxing nothing jarring a nice size as well sometimes it's great to get back to basics without clutter or distraction very happy with it could be used by a novice reader or experienced but in different ways

This deck has been a welcome addition to my gigging bag. It reads very well for events and mixed crowds. The use of silhoettes allows people of all backgrounds to easily relate to the images and imagine themselves in the scenes. At first glance the design looks simplistic but don't be decieved... there is an openess in the images and a clever use of colour that at the same time gives a clear structure and a lot of room to see fresh insights with each use.The card size fits easily into the palm and makes for comfortable shuffling, which is another bonus for event style reading.I have found this deck to be a crowd pleaser that can swiftly deliver a clear on point message. It also works well for slower, more in-depth readings.
