This was purchased to give as a Christmas gift, so I only plugged it in for a moment to make sure everything lit up. Appears to work perfectly, though I didn't try to set it. There are no instructions for it, just a couple of unlabeled buttons, so I'll let the person I got it for figure out how to set it.It does look like the design of the case was changed a little from what is pictured in the product details. It's the same size, shape, and type of wood and stain, but the vents are not in the same place. I don't mind the difference, it's still a beautiful piece of functional art.This version does not have a colon between the hours and minutes. Some other, older reviews said that the flashing was annoying, and that it was prone to burning out quickly, so I'm pleased that this one didn't include the colon.The person I got this for loves everything tube, makes their own tube amplifiers, and has a nixie clock widget on the main screen of all their Android devices. They're also ridiculously hard to buy gifts for, since they're the type that'll never tell you what they want for Christmas. When I first came across this item on a geek/nerd site, I actually exclaimed "Awesome!" out loud, because I was so excited to find the absolute perfect gift for them. I'm really glad that I checked Amazon and found this seller, since I was prepared to buy it from the other website, where it was $100 more expensive. I almost want to give it to them early, because I can hardly wait to see their reaction to it. I think this'll be the best gift I ever got them.Before I bought it, I sent the seller a question to make sure it was shipped in a box that wouldn't give it away, and they answered quickly. Great customer service. I got an email from the seller telling me it had been shipped about 15 minutes before the automated email from Amazon. Product shipped and arrived when expected, and was well packaged to protect it. I would not hesitate to purchase from this seller again.

This is an awesome nixie tube clock. I've been looking at kits forever, but this blew them all away in the looks category and was already assembled. I received number 34 of 250.The Good:-The styling is really classic, reminds me of something from the 50s.-Craftsmanship seems excellent.-The Packaging it came in had a nice feel, which goes a long way.The Bad:-I wish there was a way to stop the colon (round middle tubes) from flashing, it reminds me of a VCR flashing.Easy to operate, and looks great. I had to take off one star because of the fact that the numeral 7 doesn't light up on any of the tubes. I included a picture just so that you can see what I'm saying.Edit 11/15/2014: The seller sent me a new clock where the 7s are operational. I think I liked clock number 34 a bit more than 49 because of the wood coloring, but this is a hand made product so you have to expect some variance. Changed rating from 4 to 5 stars given that all the digits do light up.

How do you set this thing? I think the instructions are missing something, like information

This clock is well engineered and assembled. It's a fully functioning work of art and the construction seems quite solid. Mine is the newer version without the 2 laps in the middle to simulate a colon ( : ) that people reported issues with. The nixie tubes produce a nice warm glow that makes it a perfect bedside clock (I cannot sleep with the bright blue LEDs that go in everything these days) The one thing I don't like about it is the power cord seems kind of cheap, but you could probably replace it if it bothers you.I heard some people say that theres does not keep time if you remove power, but mine does, the only thing is that all the settings default whenever you plug it back in. (I set mine to 24hour which defaults to 12 hour)

Let me say first that if it's not obvious from the pictures, this clock does not look like it was made by a professional woodworker. It has a rustic look, rather like you might find partially hidden on the shelves of a summer cottage. On the other hand, great care went into its design, and it doesn't look much like anything I own -- and I mean that as a compliment. Its looks are only the beginning of what makes this clock so appealing. The numbers "glow" in a way that no LED clock replicates. You can see the numbers perfectly well in daytime without modifying the settings, but I particularly like the effect when the lights are off or at very low levels, when I enjoy just looking at the clock's numbers as it cycles through time. I would not recommend this for someone who wants their clock to do everything for the simple reason that the functionality of this nixie clock is limited. But here less is more, and I can heartily recommend this clock to anyone who wants to see time in a different way.

I would give the clock 5 stars but the linseed oil they pack it with has an almost impossible cork to get out and when you do it may spill all over like mine did, oh and you might get the wrong power adapter as I did and that renders the clock useless unless you go buy the correct one, have it on hand, or e=mail customer service and while they are quick I am currently waiting for the correct adapter to come ups. Now as far as the clock goes its works perfectly and unlike some others said the fit and finish on this clock is great. The only small draw back is it pretty much has to be read from directly in-front of it get too far off to the side and you can't tell what time it is. it does have 12-24 hour function and alarm. It is under driving the tubes and on the box they claim 30 years of life (experts say 5-15 years) from the tubes because of this and the fact it rolls the numbers every minute and every 10 minutes it rolls them like a slot machine which is cool. The Yellow and Blue LED backlights work fine but I like the look of the tubes without help. Yellow is for AM hours and Blue for PM hours. I also chose this clock because the IN-12 tubes are plentiful and look to be for quite some time and are not all that expensive. This clock does have pinned tubes meaning changing them if they do go out is not hard at all another bonus! All in all I like the clock.
