Nikon D5200 Digital Field Guide

If you are looking for a quick referance guide as an aide memoire THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR YOU. I bought this after reading other peoples reviews. Plan was to have a quick reference guide to pull out to jog the old grey matter. There is too much basic info, too much blurb about what you dont need to know when out with ykur camera. For example there is a section on file transfer and folder flow, which u need when at home, not when you need to find out how to use quiet shutter release and cant remember how. What on earth is a section on accessories doing in a field guide? Have never come across a camera shop when taking pictures half way up Snowdon. Nor when clinging to a side of boat shooting hump backs. As a use as a home reference to use to get to know your camera it is a good book. As a 'field manual' it fails miserably. Plus its too big.

You're free to choose in this latest Nikon Digital handy help & tip book between bite sized quick info or if you have a little more time on your hands move further into the book and read things in far greater detail.My advise to you if it gets too much is buy yourself a handy sized book with some sticky page markers to assist you and make notes on the chapters that interest you and add footnotes as you go. Once you've completed writing what bits of info you feel benefit you, write out a little sticky page indicator and stick it on the page so you can get to it quick sticks, instead of fighting your way through indexes and appendixes.Enjoy your D5200, it's a beast of a camera, almost THE perfect camera of all time.Peace out.

After reading this, or probably just the chapter headed 'essentials' I now understand my camera properly for the first time. I have started using so much more of its capability than I did after reading the rather boring manual.

Excellent - makes a great addition to Nikon's manual (which is already acceptable). This book, instead of just telling what to do, it explains why - sometimes with examples.

An excellent easy to read book. I have used many of the tips here to improve my understanding of photography as much as using the particular features of the camera.
