Art: A World History

It is difficult to find an all colour history of art encyclopedia at a reasonable price. Well, this is such a book. From pre-history to modern art, this has almost everything and it's easy to carry around too. The only critical remark I would make is that they could have gone for more full page illustrations - the Sistene Chapel for example is a quarter page and could have been given more space. However, the breadth of art covered in a small volume is substantial.

Long and detailed books with lots of text test my patience. So I always look for briefs when it comes to any kind of theory. So I searched and picked up this one when I needed some background on art and I was not disappointed. Nice handy size and very well designed. Highlights all the ages with time lines from Pre-history, Antiquity, Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, 18th Century, 19th Century, 20th Century and Art after 1945. Each age has all the respective artists introduced with dates and images of major artworks. Also great as a coffee table book. Great introduction to aspiring artists who are afraid to pick up huge volumes.

Brought as a xmas present. The person loved it and was amazed at all the different works of art in there as well as all the descriptions.
