Breeders 'n' Keepers, Volume 1 - Shrimp Keepers Magazine (AQUARIUM FRESHWATER SHRIMP) by Chris Lukhaup (English and German Edition) Paperback – June 17, 2013

There is no denying that Chris Lukhaup takes gorgeous photographs of little shrimp. However, the content was not what I expected. I assumed there would be more about the actual needs of the shrimp and how to care for them. There is some of that, but the content is a collection of interviews with top breeders. The interviews are in German on the left side of the page and in English on the right side. The English translations are extremely well done. I am a total newbie to shrimp. I met Mr. Lukhaup at an event in Chicago. He showed some of the same photos in his presentation that are in this book. They are definitely suitable for framing. I bought this book when I got home because I was so impressed with Mr. Lukhaup's charming personality, and I wanted to know as much as I could about how to care for a dozen little shrimp I'd bought at the event. If you intend to breed shrimp to develop new strains or make a strain more pure, this book will be of great interest to you. This book reminds me of "Market Wizards" by Jack Schwager. In that book you don't learn what specifically the top stock or commodities traders do, but you learn about them as individuals. That book and this one are both fascinating reading if you want an insight into who these people are, and help answer the question, "Could I do what they do?"

I have to write that it is a very good book. Very educator. But eye is not original is copy of the book very well. Prepared but be careful with the Copyright.

Bilder sehr sehr schön, wie von Chris Lukhaup auch zu erwarten ;)Dass immer die gleichen Fragen gestellt werden, ist etwas ungewöhnlich, aber interessant da jeder Züchter so einen Einblick in seine Arbeitsweise gibt.Kann mich der anderen Rezension nur anschließen, Bilder von den Anlagen, oder erwähnten Besonderheiten wären klasse.Ich kaufe auf jeden Fall auch das zweite Heft.

This is one of the few publications on the subject of freshwater shrimp. It's published in Germany and is quite expensive. The author interviews top shrimp breeders in Europe about what they keep, water parameters, feeding, lighting, etc. There are beautiful photos throughout. The text is in both German and English which takes some getting-used-to at first. This is definitely a specialist publication. Despite the cost, I would buy Volume 2 if Amazon.ca or Amazon.com carried it. Not sure why they don't.
