Not very unpredictable stories
Written in Khushwant Singh's racy style of writing with Tadka of rebaldry and sex, the stories make a generally interesting reading. Sometimes, they are unbelievable, like the story of Zora Singh, a PWD Chief Engineer, who is rewarded with the Bharat Ratna for his services to the political masters. But reading in newspapers in recent years a report on an octogenarian, senior Congress Party leader from UP caught sleeping with two women (at the same time) when he was Governor of a southern state, which led to his sacking and a teenage boy proving in court by DNA tests that he was (illegitimate) son of the same politician, I am inclined to believe in Khushwant Singh's stories.

Outstanding stories
Khushwant Saab is a genius -- real word smith. Simple readable language mixed with lot of colloquial words. He is well versed with the Indian psyche. Their obsession with gods, rituals, hierarchy, and last but not the least SEX. Sexuality and it's outpourings on other aspects of human personality is a running theme throughout the stories in this book. Outstanding!

Amazing story telling .
Amazing is just a word to describe the wonderfully woven stories and subtle sarcasm latent in many of these. Many of them challenge the conventional superstitious practices prevalent in India.
