Happy I purchased it, but
I like Kevin's book, I hate the cover. No firefighter wants to stare at another Firefighters Chest, that's just not proper attire. I guess the publisher was rooting for the housewife who sits at home and eats bon bons to buy this book and not Firefighters...? Great book for the person who wants to strengthen the muscles needed to become a FF. I hate the cover though.

Not bad, offers some good reasoning for the exercises.
Nothing ground breaking, offers some good techniques for job related duties and tasks. I would recommend it to anyone unfamiliar with the fire service and are looking at exercises to enhance themselves that reflect the demands and functions of the job.

Good basic book
Great if your just starting out or know nothing about nutrition or body mechanics. Could've done with less anecdotal material and a more straight forward approach, but that's just me and not a criticism.

Good gift for firefighter
I have three firefighters living with me. They are fitness crazy so I bought each one. Two moved out (kids) but my husband still lives here. LOL had to fill up the words for this review...

well written...AND
This is a great little book for interested lay people who want to "get fit like a firefighter". I know an EMT who boasts about it. The focus on using circuit equipment to "simulate" firefighting tasks, is a useful approach to making gym exercises "related to firefighting duties". I recommend this book for its excellent nutrition section and useful collateral information.BUT, for the professional firefighter-- you might want to consider the book; Fitness for Firefighters: Enduro-Strength Training . It is designed ONLY for firefighters. The routines require actual firefighting equipment: hoses, axes, ladders, etc. and are effectively crafted for building power, strength, and endurance for firefighters. All told, both books have value for me.

Great read! Author approaches fitness as a whole placing emphasis on strength, endurance, cardio, and stretching. Great information that is valuable to maintaining fitness levels as a firefighter. Nutrition info a little outdated, but to each his/her own!
