I Love Sea-Monkeys®
I've been hooked on sea-monkeys for over forty years. My first were ordered out of the back of a comic book. I can't count or remember how many tanks I've had over the years but it's many. Most of the time the hatching is successful, but every now and then you can get a dud. With the kit I ordered I've had great luck and I've a tank of shrimp that's lived for about six months.TIP: If you're able to put them in a bright, sunny windowsill you will be treated to a self-sufficient tank and have more success. Just be sure the space doesn't get too hot. Algae will grow naturally and also keep the water oxygenated to create the perfect environment for them to thrive. I did this the first time with the tank I got here and I've had to do nothing to the tank for over four months. The green growth is also kind of nice as it's a great splash of color.

IT WORKS! I love these things. But follow instructions!
The media could not be loaded. IT WORKS! I remember these from my childhood so I got it for fun. The mixed reviews made me nervous they wouldn’t hatch but THEY DID! My husband was about to give up on them and almost threw it away after 2 weeks but he then saw a few little ones swimming around. They have all grown and they are so big now! There’s about 6 in there. It took about 2 weeks for them to hatch. I read the instructions and placed the aquarium in a well lit window area facing TRUE NORTH as the booklet instructs but away from direct sunlight. If you follow the instructions 100% it should work. They will be so tiny at first you will have to look real hard but don’t give up!

Total waste of money. Doesn't work. DO NOT BUY
Junk. I don't have the energy to return it and get my money back. Bought this to share with my 6 year old and 8 year old. I followed the directions to the letter. Nothing grew. Total disappointment. I even had friends on Facebook say.."Get ready for disappointment" and they were right. So, in conclusion parents, do yourself a favor and don't try to relive your past and share with your kids. Buy them something else like Crazy Aaron's putty or something else because this does not work.

I like them alot
I had high hopes for my ocean zoo sea-monkeys. I followed the directions and they hatched. It took a long time, but they did grow... Very slowly. At no point did they come to resemble anything remotely similar to how they are portrayed on the illustration. I was hoping to find some semblance of a ocean primate, these are not ocean primates. They did not sit on the bottom with their children, they did not make eye contact as they do in the image. I'm not so much concerned about the lack of eye contact as I am about the lack of their ability to sit on the bottom. They swam a lot, and showed very little interest being as leisurely and familiar as is portrayed in the illustration. Nevertheless, I like them alot.

They don’t like the cold
I love these and it gave me the joy of owning a pet without much cost. I had a good lil bunch goin, until my roommate opened the window with the weather in the 40°s and killed them all. I know it’s advertised for kids, but they’re kinda coolI use to have these as a kid and it was just like I had remembered. These are great for kids and they can watch them grow and have the responsibility to feed them. Also, unlike the photo advertised, mine was blue!! I liked the blue

Dead eggs, absolute waste of money!
As many others have written here the eggs included didn't hatch at all. I used distilled water bought from a certain 3 alphabetic character named drug store, placed and mixed in the water purifier with a clean stainless steel spoon, waited 30 hours then added and lightly mixed in the eggs with the same spoon. Nothing whatsoever grew. I'd recommend not buying this product because the eggs are non-functional as you can see in many other reviews here.

Results may vary
So Sea Monkeys are a 'toy' that has been around for a few decades, it was heavily advertised at the beginning in the back of comic books along with x-ray vision glasses and other such novelties. The premise is you add water and then add a packet a day for 'instant' sea life which will wow and amaze you.In reality, sea monkeys are really just brine shrimp. The first packet simply contains salt and water conditioner, but also a few brine shrimp eggs. The second packet contains the rest of the eggs and some food (mainly yeast). The reason for eggs in the first packet is, under ideal conditions, they will hatch on the next day giving the appearace that when you add the second packet there is 'instant' life. Regardless, the third packet contains just food and you add a small bit whenever the water is looking clear. The package claims they'll live up to two years, but in reality their lifespan is much, much shorter than that. What you see is they actually breed like mice so you just see a continual cycle of adults producing offspring. How long this goes on is largly up to water conditions, as pollutants will never leave the container. You can't simply change the water easily because they are in salt water, and can not live in regular tap water. Now, something to keep in mind is the amount of time it takes for the eggs to hatch is entirely dependant on temperature, with a higher temperature making things happen quicker. Because of this, it really works best if you do this in the summer when your home will be at the warmest. In the winter, your best bet is to place it near a fireplace if you have one, or close to a heater. For us, we don't have a fireplace and our heat is through floor radiators that didn't really work for this. So with our house being 65-68 degrees this resulted in it taking several days for eggs to hatch, and we didn't get very many. Now, two weeks later, we only have 3 brine shrimp alive and well. This is why I say results may vary, and I believe my poor success was due in part to temperature. That aside, the container for these is small, but stable. There are a few spots on the plastic that act as a weak magnifier so you can more easily see the sea monkeys, but I would recommend using a regular magnifying glass as it makes seeing the moving creatures easier.I would say this is best for very small children, in the 3 to 5 age range. Beyond that, they may lose interest quickly. Can be a good experience in teaching a child how to care for other animals. I rate this 3 stars, for average.
