It will become a favorite
I frequently find myself recommending this book to folks - it is one that I re-read every couple years (and I don't even _like_ using shotguns), the same way I re-read Elmer Keith's work. McIntosh's love of the sport and the guns themselves really comes through, and he masterful writing is a pleasure to behold: he helps even a novice feel "in the know" and effortlessly conveys a little boy's feelings of excitement as well as an artist's appreciation for graceful-yet-effective engineering. If I could have only a dozen gun books in my library, this would be one of them.

If like silly maudlin and the unsubstantiated this is the book ...
If like silly maudlin and the unsubstantiated this is the book for you! "magnum shot gun shells are useless". The sixteen gauge is dead. In ten or fifteen years you won't be able to find a sixteen chambered gun". There are sixxteens available from tri-star and browning regularly to name two, over twenty years later and it is still the most popular gauge in europe! His articles are short magazine articles hung togeather. If you like drivel like my dad gave me his gun when I left because he was dying, buy it now! But if you want a book an shotguns look elsewhere!

I'm now a Michael McIntosh fan boy
Could not put it down. If you love fine double guns (Michael refers to everything else as simply "repeaters"), this is must reading.
