Nice photos but some shapes are unclear
Ok book. Nice pictures but the shapes can be a little hard to pick out. For example, one of the pictures for 'triangle' is a group of hockey players kind of huddled in the shape of a triangle, but with rounded edges. My son is only 18 months and learning shapes, so I think it's a little confusing for him.

Our son loved the book and will read it to his toddler often!
Fun series of board books with real photographs of NHL hockey players. Educational and also great fun for a hockey loving family to enjoy.

Basic shapes for young hockey fans
I'm a big fan of the SI Kids Rookie Books series and it only takes one page through of any book in the series to determine the reason. There is no one out there that does sports photography like Sports Illustrated and they bring it to this series of concept books in ways that are sure to delight the youngest of sports fans. Hockey Shapes provides large two page photo spreads from actual hockey games, featuring real NHL and college teams. Even when the photos don't include action, they provide a close up view of actual equipment that kids are sure to enjoy. Shapes are everywhere in hockey, and this book does a great job of pointing out twelve of them while treating us to some great hockey photos. A few of the shapes might be hard for young readers to figure out on their own. The parallelogram is a bit of a stretch, but with a bit of adult guidance I think kids will likely be able to see it. Each shape word is highlighted and a basic shape illustration is included with the text. Some will be easy to pick out, like the star on the Dallas Stars jersey, while others might require a bit more examination, like the diamonds in the hockey net. I liked the cube illustration the best (hockey scoreboard) and felt the cylinder was quite clever (stack of hockey pucks). The book includes a glossary of terms; read more about it section, and a link to the facthound website. Hockey Shapes is a great way for young sports fans to learn about shapes and will encourage them to seek out the shapes they see in their own homes.

Great book
My son loves this book. The colours and images are very sharp and crisp. I like the way it uses common hockey items to identify shapes.
