Amazing!
One of THE best murder-mystery that's been penned by this absolutely fabulous author! Her description of every major scene is not only apt, but also hilarious! The way she's put in in prose is reminiscent of the brilliant witticism of Bill Bryson! She's the modern avatar of Agatha Christie, and that too in an awesome way!

I have read the series and enjoyed reading the exploits of Inspector Singh
I have read the series and enjoyed reading the exploits of Inspector Singh. This novel was equally interesting, indeed gripping, and I read it from beginning to end without a long break ! It is not very complicated and thus makes one read it easily. It goes on triggering the reader's interest throughout. It was a good and enjoyable read.

An Epic Thriller!
This book is a masterpiece. You can't guess the criminal till the end of the book. In fact all of the people I suspected turned out to be innocent.

Enthralling Malaysian Suspense
Excellent plot, surprising twists, humorous - and I learnt a lot about Borneo, the Penans, and the dichotomy of Malaysia and Singapore. This was my first but certainly not my last reading of Shamini Flint.

A very likeable detective!
The Inspector Singh series is thoroughly enjoyable. The reader quickly comes to like Inspector Singh and the stories are very engaging! "A Most Peculiar Malaysian Murder" was a particularly good and engaging story. I highly recommend it!

A man of quiet (and often sweaty out of breath) principle in a world of expediency
This is the first in what is so far a seven book series. Inspector Singh is an excellent character, whose ostensible weaknesses are manifold (stubborness, sloth, beer, cigarettes, long delicious mouthwatering curry lunch breaks, terrier like tenacity, a rapidly expanding waistline, an inability to bend or walk far without wheezing, insubordinate thoughts and actions, and a disrespect if not a disregard for regimentation and bureaucratic authority). The keys to his interest are characters and their motivations and actions. And this plays out in the plot lines and players in the series. The cultural and physical geography of the plots also becomes elemental to the story unfolding and its resolution. So far each story has had a different geographical location, from Singapore to Bali to Cambodia to Mumbai, each location plays a major part in how the story elements are triggered. So interesting, so well observed, and so well written.
