LenoxTools Step Drill Bit, 1/4-to-3/4-Inch (30883VB3)

This is the 1/4” shank version. Still a good bit, but not as pictured

better off drilling a pilot hole in metal. Steps in the bit work great in steel, just not very good for making the first whole. I drill 3/16 steel all the time. I have Drilled around 50 holes with it in 3/16 steel and the tip is very dull, but the steps still drill well.

Works great on sheet metal. Cuts holes fast and consistant. Saves me a lot of time instead of using several smaller conventional bits and working my way up to a larger bit in order to keep the hole round. I found that it helps if you use a punch and dimple metal drill bit doesn't slide around and use oil to keep the drill tip cool.

Used the same lenox step bits for years, wanted to order another one, Didn't want one with a 1/4" shank. Ordered this one because it said it was a round shank, received the 1/4" shank instead.

These Lenox step drills work great. They are well-made and the diameter markings are clearly legible. We use them for drilling holes in electrical enclosures. The key to success with these is a powerful drill motor and immediately reducing your feed pressure as the drill breaks through the panel as you go from step to step in diameter.
