A Feast to treat on.
The joy that I have extracted out of this discovery is beyond my expectations. Initially I hesitated because words loose their original meaning with every century but being a verbivore , I could afford to invest time and thought and at this point of time, when I am halfway through the dictionary , it has whetted my appetite for words and phrases that enjoy primordial origin.Having come across the experiments that our society has been doing with words, the word Scientist would no more remain confined to Science, it would be elevated to the World of Language. This work is an elixir for those who want to toy with the words. With the variety of words and their derivatives , that have been served on my platter, I look forward to Oxford to further enrich my quiver of words.Kudos to venerable Julia Cresswell.

Good for a start
Many words have been omitted. It is interesting indeed for a start but not that good if you have to study a bit deeply. It could have been better. At many places instead of word etymology details, phrases and proverbs are given. 3/5 Stars

Better than Ad Libs on car rides!
I own an older version and a friend of mine enjoyed it so much I bought 3 of Oxfords books to enjoy with him. Remember Ad Libs when you were a kid? These are much more fun to share, especially on long car rides.

Good reference.
This item was purchased as a gift for my grandson, who has shown a strong interest in the evolution of language. If the book is not too advanced for him, he should find it very interesting.

Interesante
Es un diccionario del que difícilmente te podrás despegar una vez que lo coges. Es muy interesante descubrir el origen de cada palabra, y además muchas vienen acompañadas de expresiones que las incluyen.Quizás no es el diccionario etimológico más completo que puedas encontrar, ya que no aparecen todas las palabras que existen, pero desde luego merece la pena ahondar en las que incluye.Totalmente recomendable.

Deceiving
Interesting concerning basic vocabulary, but the etymology of common idioms leaves to be desired. I have found better responses on internet.
