Bill Haley-11 Original Albums

Being a teenager back in the 50's, no one could rock the house like Bill and the Comets. I was President of the local chapter of the Bill Haley Fan Club and I bought every 45 rpm record Bill & the Comets put out at that time. I get upset when these so-called rock historians write about early rock stars and the majority of them FAIL to recognize the great contribution that Bill & the Comets made to early R & R music.This set is a great buy for the price. A lot of the early albums are no longer available and they are covered in this set. The last two CDs; #9 and #10 feature Bill when he recorded for other labels when he left Decca. Although I was a die hard fan, these just don't measure up to the earlier Decca sides. They totally lack the vocal and beat that drove his Decca hits. One could say they are just too vanilla. Sad to say that Bill was past his prime when these were recorded.I recommend this set for those who want to hear some of the best early rock hits of the Founding Father of 50's Rock and Roll.

From a historical standpoint, this is very interesting. Who knew that Bill Haley was such an accomplished yodeler? He had a few years on his contemporaries, thus he wasn't probably given his due. But he seemed to follow the given fad of the day. Lots of repetition in this set. Songs are repeated and some songs are recycled with new lyrics. But over all, I enjoyed it. In hindsight, he probably should have went back to his country roots.

The songs are great but the extra songs are not as great

Great set, much better quality than I honestly expected. If you're looking for a good alternative to the expensive Bear Family sets, this is it!

Aside from being a great budget set, this is just about the only place you're going to find Bill's original 11 albums on CD. While there's plenty more albums after these, this effectively represents the "golden age" of Bill Haley and his Comets. Conveniently enough, each album has its own CD, while the remaining space is dedicated to non-LP bonus tracks, which is a highlight because many of Bill's early sides from the 40s/50s were scarcely heard. A few missing tracks I would've liked to see featured (like some early Saddlemen recordings), but pretty good overall.There was a bit of an issue with redundancy when it came to the content of "Live It Up" and "Rock with Bill Haley and the Comets", since both LPs collected mostly the same content, just on different labels - that space could've been dedicated to more tracks. Anyways, this is a must have for any Bill Haley fan since his "Rock Around the Clock" days just barely scratch the surface.

I represent the estate of Bill Haley and this company is not paying any royalties on the 11 albums collected here. Imagine the career Haley had and how much heartache and hard work, ups and downs, successes and failures all went into creating and recording all of these records and no royalties are paid. Do not buy this, it is not fair to Bill's legacy.

Most important points. One - This price for 10 CDs (11 albums) is ridiculous valuefor money...and Two - the quality of the recordings is very good indeed. There is a very personal BUT... It has to be said that by no means are all the tracks "classics", or even very good. Interesting? Yes, but good -- Not so. Having said that, this really is a possible definitive collection, and if you love Rock and Roll and Haley as I do this is a grand set to get. Just be warned in particular the "Yodelling" tracks!! Oh dear! (P.S. Why do I think 13 WOMEN is his 2nd best title???).

Underrated and kind of left-behind when Elvis triumphed, Haley survived and continued to tour, this is a great set of his country, rockabilly, rock'n'roll output. If it dare be said is he the original King of rock'n' roll?

Good set of ten cds of Bill Haley's first 11 LPs....A good range of Rock'N'Roll...With some early stuff added.....Although a nice set , It could have been a lot better if each CD had a photo of the original LP cover....But apart from that a great set

A must have for at Bill Haley fan. Not only the usual COMETS tracks, but also includes tracks recorded with FOUR ACES OF WESTERN SWING & THE SADDLEMEN too. Fantastic value for money & a great item for inclusion in my extensive Rock 'n' Roll / Rockabilly music library.
