This is the self-titled debut release from the rock-n-roll super group, Tomahawk. Comprised of guitarist Duane Dension (The Jesus Lizard), vocalist Mike Patton (Faith No More), bassist Kevin Rutmanis (Melvins) and drummer John Stanier (Helmet) you couldn't ask for a better pedigree.

Faith No More, Revisited
I'll start by being honest. Tomahawk boasts a number of well-known performers and artists, including Mike Patton, a guitarist from Jesus Lizard (Duane Denison) and Kevin Rutmanis, who is apparently a bass-player for the Melvins.I know none of these artists. I only know Mike Patton. I am only aware of Mike Patton's massive vocal range and his (at times) psychotic song style. All this impressive line-up amounts to a very nice CD, but it is still reminiscient of Faith No More. Very similar riffs, very similar singing style (and it's not because of Patton, see Lovage for an example of how he can sing differently). The only different thing is the fact they barely use synths, and that's only different when compared to Angel Dust.Is that bad? No. Not at all. I like Faith No More, and I like Tomahawk. Tomahawk as an album is a bit more refined, and a bit more mature. Maybe a little bit off-beat and less mainstream than Faith No More CDs.Is it different? Is it avant-garde? The answer here is also a resounding No. It's a very well-crafted CD, but it's nothing new.Buy it if you like Faith No More and you want more of it. Don't come in thinking this is another one of Patton's musical journies going astray (like his musical journies usually do).As for the tracks themselves - I'd listen to "God Hates a Coward", a very catchy song which is guaranteed to keep you humming the riff for days after you hear it. I'd also listen to "101 North" and "Sweet Smell of Success".

This Beat Could Win Me The Grammy!
Aaah, my man Mike Patton. Erstwhile Faith No More frontman (and Grammy winner) and fulltime iconoclast, he has finally turned his attention somewhere in between the (relatively) straight-up riffing of Faith No More and the outright counterculture fetishism of Fantomas and come up with an excellent substitue for Ritalin.Tomahawk is a sort of avant-garde alternative rock messiah, and something the Amercian music scene really needs right now....take the lyrical and theatrical post-modern absurdity of Radiohead, add a dash of Primus, and give it a boot in the rear and you would be close. If you like the sardonic surrealism of The Mars Volta without all the masturbatory B.S., this is the band for you. And it rocks. All ambulatory bipedal neo-primates are hereby ordered to purchase as many copies as possible of this CD. One of the best releases of the 21st century. There, I said it (laughs).

GREAT band.
I knew it was used so it has some scratches. Hopefully it plays perfectly. It should PLUS it came with an extra cd. I have all of Tomahawks vinyl records but I’m without a record player atm and wanted to be able to listen to them in my car too so this is GREAT. my two favorite albums of theirs!! I love practically all of Mike Patton’s projects. A true genius!

The first Tomahawk album manages to define the band's sound successfully first time round - a feat in itself!
People coming across this album are no doubt fans of (in my opinion) the greatest and most versatile vocalist in modern rock and metal - Mike Patton, and while our wait for Faith No More's 'Sol Invictus' is getting painfully close, I decided to check out this album having already heard their back catalogue. The sound of this band is quite difficult to define, it morphs from odd, jazzy chords to Tom Morello-esque weird sounds to some quite heavy - but not overtly distorted riffs, whatever it is, it isn't 'traditional' and is definitely a unique and weird sound. Tomahawk has generally been labelled alternative or experimental rock/metal and that's probably a fair account. The album length is how a good rock record should be, most tracks are under four minutes (apart from two) and just about over 40 minutes, this isn't an over the top indulgent prog album, its short, sharp, strange and gets straight to its twisted point ... whatever that may be!My favourite tracks are the creepy and frantic 'God Hates A Coward,' the bouncing groovy 'Jockstrap,' opener 'Flashback' and 'POP 1.'Whilst the riffs probably aren't everyone's cup of tea, Patton's vocal range is simply astonishing. From a quickfire, skat vocals barrage whilst wearing a gas mask to high pitched screams, to rhythmic breathing sounds ... I struggle to think of anything vocally he can't do!Though this is a great album and has many surreal highlights, it doesn't quite top 'Mit Gas' in my opinion which is my favourite Tomahawk album. It is not as accessible as Faith No More, not as heavy as Mr. Bungle or as fringe or inaccessible as Fantomas (but is pretty far out). That said, any fans of Mike Patton's weird greatness should make this album a must buy on their list.

Michael has done it again
If you are new to Tomahawk this is a good place to start. Some great metal grooves and rythmic timings and a few more sedate tracks. I like them all.I'm a big fan of Mike Patton and his arrangement, production and experimental tendancies but if you've only arrived here because you're a fan of Faith no More you won't be disappointed!

I liked him since Faith No More days. All of Tomahawks albums are worth it. Long delivery ( cd comes from states) but perfect condition. I do recommend.

Sehr ähnlich den späteren FNM-Alben wie "King for a Day (...)", jedoch etwas härter
