Kuch Kuch Hota Hai Movie begins with Tina (Rani Mukerji) dying after child birth. She leaves behind letters for her daughter (Anjali), which the girl eagerly awaits on each of her birthdays. As Anjali gets the last letter written by her mother, she gets to know about Anjali (Kajol), who was Rahul's (Tina's husband) best friend. Then follows the story of these two best friends, Rahul and Anjali who studied together. Anjali is a perfect tomboy and gets along very well with Rahul and other boys. She doesn't like to be in the company of other girls as she finds them silly. Rahul and Anjali play basketball together and keep competing with each other. Their petty quarrels are a part of their strong friendship. Then, one day, their lives change with the entry of Tina, principal's daughter who joins the college to complete her studies.Anjali, Tina and Rahul become friends and Rahul eventually falls in love with Tina. It so happens that Anjali also starts realising her feelings for Rahul. When she finally gathers the courage to confess her love to Rahul, he confesses his love for Tina.
