Karen Pryor, Getting Started: Clicker Training Kit for Puppys

Before we got our puppy Olive I think I read every puppy / dog training book on the market. The Clicker Puppy DVD is a little amateurish, but despite that, it was probably one of the best things I purchased before we got our puppy. A few five-minute training sessions a day and I had Olive performing sit, down, etc on command days after bringing her home. Also, the DVD shows how to help you teach basic manners easily. Using the clicker is weird at first, but once Olive got it she would quickly start trying things to get the click and the reward. I used pieces of her kibble as a reward when she was a puppy. Using what was shown in the DVD I was able to use the clicker to train all sorts of things based on the confidence of how well the techniques worked. The DVD is the star of this kit, but the rest is good enough. I bought this for myself and later when I found out my Dad was getting a puppy I still ordered the kit instead of just the DVD. I plan on buying this kit for anyone I know who is getting a puppy.

This is a great starter kit for clicker training a dog. We just recently got a puppy and wanted to use this technique. It works really well as long as you keep up with it, and it's really not hard at all; you just need to be able to invest the time. The reason for 4 vs 5 stars is the DVD is not the absolute best. The music gets on your nerves pretty quickly, and a lot of what is on here can be viewed on her website for free (at least enough to get the gist of what's going on.

Being a complete novice at dog training I was skeptical but with two new Australian Shepherd puppies and unable to afford training classes I was willing to try anything. As advertised the puppies responded within minutes of the first session. Thought I would put it to the real test and try it on my four year old mini daschund. She was a bit more stubborn but still responded in the first session. I liked how the training shown on the DVD was done with completely untrained dogs/puppies and used children as the trainers to show how easy it can be. The product description didn't clearly explain that some of the techniques are much easier with more than one person but so far I'm pleasantly surprised. In one week the puppies have quit jumping on people when they come in, sit on command and are starting to come when called. Hopefully the results in the next few weeks will be equally impressive.

This product has been a great buy. I would recommend to see the video first, it has very clear instructions on how to use the clicker. Also it gives great ideas on how to teach your kids to use the clicker. Then I would read the book to understand the concept well and clear out any doubts. Its a great way to train the dog without using words and making the dog think for himself, this way the behavior is well established and with short practices everyday you will have a trained and happy puppy and dog for a lifetime!!!! I am really enjoying and learning so much from this first buy... I am sure that I will continue learning with other videos in the future, but this one is a great starter to keep me busy for a while!!!

one of the only reasons i ended up buying the entire kit was because the price was better than buying the dvd and clicker individually. honestly, you'll probably watch the dvd once and never watch it again. it is for complete beginners. all you really need is just the clicker and one principle when training, click during a desired behavior. thats all. if possible, just buy the clicker and try to watch videos online. visuals work better than reading text in a book.

I'm glad I bought it. The video was good to watch with my girls. It goes REALLY slow. But it gets the point across to kids.The book is good to leaf through.Clicker is nice.Flash cards and treats are just about worthless.So it's useful even though it is over-fluffed and over priced.

There are some good ideas in the bundle, but the video is very outdated. I would say watch the video and find a way to use the clicking method that works for your furry friend.

Some good tips and the treats were nice. I ended up making the clicking sound with my mouth so don't use the clicker but the worst part was thinking their was an instructional dvd included. Don't be fooled it just some advertising for other programs you can buy. Very deceptive.
