HARDCORE NIRVANA FANS: READ THIS
This may be the best book written about the band. The author really has an in-depth knowledge about the events, shows, sessions, and stories she describes in this book. She does a great job pointing out the inconsistencies in different people's recollections on dates and minute details before returning back to what's actually important - the story itself. If you're a hardcore Nirvana fan, you may think you have heard all the same-old stories before. Well, Entertain Us seems to assume that you're already fairly familiar with these guys and presents a fresh look at the beginning of the band's career as well as filling in a lot of gaps left by previous publications. The great things about this book are its flow and accuracy. Gaar doesn't get hung up on things that nobody cares about, like a lot of authors do in band biographies. She also doesn't do much assuming - if any at all. Best of all, the entirety of the spotlight DOES NOT get shed on Kurt. There is an extremely pleasing amount of stories about the quirks and blunders of the rest of the band and crew here as well. If you are a Nirvana fan in any way, do yourself a favor and pick this one up.

Nirvana
Excellent book. I enjoyed the in depth information about the bands early years considering almost everything else focuses more on the years following the release of Nevermind.

I expected something else
I expected something else. No passion. Counts details. No information about the persons. Has little to do with the informations from the blurb.

Detailed Analysis of the Grunge Scene
I bought this book with a little trepidation as I have read all of the Nirvana books I can find and typically they all write about the demise of the front man himself. However, Gaar concentrates on the very foundations of how Nirvana came to be, looking at the other bands such as Green River, Mudhoney and The Melvins. Nirvana were not the creators of 'Grunge' music but they were essentially the band that brought grunge rock kicking and screaming into the mainstream with 'Nevermind' - grunge was grinding its horns long before 1991.This book reads fluidly and is extremely informative with some rare photos at the start of the book. I read it in two weeks but there is much to absorb and I found out so much more from this book about Nirvana's early years than any other publication. The book looks at the influences Nirvana enveloped to produce 'Bleach' and I would say that 80% of the text concentrates here and the record industry at the time. It is only at the latter stages of the book that we introduce Grohl and Nevermind but Gaar stops here rather than over gilding into Kurt's suicide too much. This is a must read for any nirvana fan or folk who are interested in the music that was boiling out of Seattle from as early as 1983. Informative, detailed and absorbing this book will take you to the bare bones of where Nirvana came from and will make the reader understand why Kurt became to loathe the slick 'Nevermind' as he always wanted to stay to his grass roots...A definite addition to the Nirvana bookshelf!!!

Another excellent book by Gillian Gaar.
This is a great and well written documentation of Nirvana's early days. Very detailed information on shows, recording sessions, etc... previous to the global success of Nevermind.
