Documentary exploring the making of The Beach Boys critically acclaimed eleventh studio album. Recorded between 1965 and 1966, the album was produced and arranged by Brian Wilson who had quit touring almost a year earlier in order to concentrate solely on writing and recording. Featuring archive footage and exclusive interviews, the film looks at the band's relationship at the time and explains the creative process behind what many consider to be one of the most influential albums of the sixties.

Wasn't there a similar video before this one ?
For me, it turned out to be a bit of disappointment. As far as I remember, I watched a very similar video of Pet Sounds with reminiscences from the Beach Boys members ( including the deceased Carl and Dennis Wilson) over some decades ago via a television programme, which was far better than this latest production. This latest one is almost like a product, which comprises another recollection made by the surviving members of the Beach Boys plus some session musicians and artists who were involved in the production of Pet Sounds. If you are the first timer who are getting into know the Beach Boys and Pet Sounds, this may be for you. But for long- term fans and anyone who knows the story about how Pet Sounds was created, this could be the repeat of what you already know. You might get more out of listening to Pet Sounds Session - 30th Anniversary.

Too Much Mike Love!
Everyone agrees that Mike is the biggest w*nker in rock-n-roll and he proves this every time he tries to steal the thunder from this documentary. This is a pretty good account about the origins and making of one of the greatest rock albums ever created and it presents Brain Wilson's genius as the fanatstic artist that he is/was. I just can't stand it when Mike comes off as one of the creative founders of the musical magic when we know he contributed very little. The other artists who recorded with Brian are a testament to Brian's talent. Mike gave very little except stupid hats and a total lack of rhythm,

The story behind the greatest album ever made
I have always, always loved this album since the day it was released in the UK. Its fascinating to hear how it came to be. The absence of Dennis and Carl was sadly noticeable. Brian has written his soul into many of the tracks. I will never tire of listening to and watching Carl sing 'God only Knows'.

Learned a lot about the Beach Boys in this. Highly recommended for all students of western music and cultural history. I Love Mike Love! Why all the hate?
