These bags work, but that's not good enough.
First, I'll start with the good: these bags work. Not only do they open and close, but all the other functionality is there too. You really can read text through the mesh, and wash veggies while they're still in the bag (though why would you?) So there's really no reason to not get the bags. Now, here's the thing: they don't do anything beyond that. First, let's talk about quality control. One of the selling points of these bags is that they are supposed to list their weights. They don't, and they're wrong. According to the tags, the smallest bag, blue, clocks in at 0.39oz. The medium bag, yellow, weighs 0.49oz. However, the largest bag, red, weighs... 0.39oz? That can't be right! According to the tags, the smallest bag weighs the same as the biggest bag, and the medium bag is heavier than both of them! These bags weigh less than my kitchen scale can register, so I can't tell if only the largest bags are mislabeled, or if the weights are all just made up. There shouldn't be a manufacturing defect on a product this simple! Now, like I said at the start of the review, the bags still work. They aren't missing any stitching, they don't turn to dust when pulled on the wrong way, they don't smell like cigarettes, etc. But this isn't just a missed detail, it's one of the five main selling points of the bags. It's almost as if nobody really cared about making this bag.I don't think anyone really cared when making this bag. The VANDOONA produce bags first came to Amazon in mid 2018. What did this new product bring to the table to shake up the reusable produce bag market? Nothing. VANDOONA didn't have any new ideas when they made these bags, they just wanted to jump on the environmental friendliness cash cow. They had to buy part of a factory to sew a new bag with custom tags to "proudly sport the brand name." Purchasing and using new equipment to do exact same thing as old equipment doesn't sound very environmentally friendly. Beyond this, these bags are missing several of the improvements made competitors over the years. Namely, these bags are not made of biodegradable cotton, and their drawstrings are locked with a plastic clip. I will give the company credit, opening and closing the bag is really effortless, better than any other drawstring bag I've ever used, full stop. However, the same effect could have achieved with a metal clip. Now, you're probably thinking, "pffh, they're bags! what kind of innovation could there be?" Well, let's start by comparing the VANDOONA produce bags to another bag: The ChicoBag VITA rePETe shoulder tote bag. The rePETe is made of 99% recycled materials, while the VANDOONA bags are made of... "Premium Mesh". The ChicoBag is easy to transport because it folds down into itself, while the VANDOONA bags are kind of just a jumble. As a college student, I have to walk to all my classes before going to the grocery store. I can easily carry two VITA bags in the side bottle holder of my backpack, but if I want to take one produce bag out, I'm probably spilling the rest out onto the floor. There's a lot of versatility to be made there. I'm not even done! The VANDOONA bags came as a "variety" pack, and I recognize this was a mistake. I can small bags and big bags, or I can just have big bags and put less things in some of them. Yes, it is nice to have color coded produce bags, but five of the bags are yellow, so really there isn't a point. A real variety pack would have had some breathable mesh bags, and some solid bags for purchasing things like "nuts" or "coffee grounds". They would be a rainbow of colors, but the colors would help you know what's inside, not how big the bag is. That's real versatility, and that's not VANDOONA. Even the advertising for VANDOONA bags is strikingly similar to every other company's amazon listing, precisely because they didn't change anything. VANDOONA bags are only as good as, if not worse than, the offerings of every other company.Vandoona, you cheated not only the customer, but yourself. You didn't design. You didn't improve. You stole a creation and gained nothing. You experienced a hollow paycheck. Nothing was risked and nothing was gained. It's sad that you don't know the difference. The only thing that impressed me with these bags is how satisfying the drawstrings are to use.

Cashiers hate these...
So I've bought several different types of reusable produce bags. I had a wider mesh one, but it was still too thick for them to get the produce number. I thought a finer mesh would make it easier to read, but NO they still hate it.Had one of my fruits squished in transit and the stain was hard to get out, but they are easy to wash and they hold up well.Overall I like these a lot despite the issues.

NO MORE PLASTIC BAGS!
***update! Ive been using these for over a year now! I bought second set because I found so many uses for them. They have held up so, so well. Ive had only one of the string enclosures come undone. I just put a new string through and it works great again. Everyone NEEDS these! Help eliminate plastic bags!!I have had these for only a couple weeks, so I can't speak for long term durability yet. So far I love them! The variety of sizes is handy, though I wish there were more of the smallest size and maybe only one of the large... If i could choose. I have absolutely no regrets though! It has been so nice to use these in the grocery store instead of all of those little plastic bags that are terrible for the environment. I love being able to jist use the drawstring instead of tieing a bag shut and having to open it over and over.Seriously, EVERYONE NEEDS THESE! I'm convinced there is no more reason for anyone to use little plastic baggies now that these are a thing.

Easy to Wash
I am trying to remove plastic from my life in any way that I can -- and extend my choices even to gifts. One of the biggest wastes are those produce bags -- used once and thrown away -- filling the landfill -- and worse ending up in the ocean. This is my second order. I liked these bags so much when I bought them for myself, I decided I wanted to get little environmentally-friendly remembrances for 2 friends for their birthdays. I found that these are so easy to wash -- and they dry within a very short time. One reason I selected these over the cotton ones is because you can see what's inside better. They stay nice -- and so does the produce -- when I put them in the refrigerator. Checkout people don't have any problem with them either (they read the tare weight on the label. Very happy with my choice.

Great product to use at the grocery store or use for laundry
These are great! Not only are they great for groceries, but my wife and I use them for our socks when we do our laundry. It always seems one sock gets eaten up during a load of laundry. But as for the grocery store, it’s absolutely great to use. I love how the cashier isn’t flipping my fruit or vegis multiple times trying to read the product code. The only thing I don’t like about the product (which I am going to be nitpicking at) is when I draw the bag closed, the draw stings are seem to be super long. Again, I am being super picky about my “dislike.” I did order a second pair of these

convenient and easy to use
So far I've only gone through one checkout with these bags (although I've found other uses around the house) but I was very happy. They're all the same size and not very large, but I shop frequently for a small family so I don't stock up on produce and the size is just right for me (as was the price). The cashier had no trouble identifying the items through the mesh, although she had to open a bag to scan one thing. No big deal. Also, when I got hime, the bag with the unripe peaches went right onto the counter to ripen -- no worries about fruit flies! The toggle works easily (I have arthritic hands) and the empty bags compress down to practically nothing. Unless they prove to be less durable than they seem, I definitely give them 5 stars. I would caution people who buy, say, several pounds of onions or potatoes at a time that this size might not work for them.
