This movie is interesting, if only for the nostalgic look @ post-Vietnam era technology & customs. Movie also serves as a workmanlike origin-story, for that gigantic Simian--who, no matter how powerful he may be ( & he better be...with those giant, semi-troglodytic lizards, scurrying around) he's ultimately a tragic figure--the last of his kind. Movie has likable Humans, some heroic, to draw viewers in & get us hooked on story. It ends with new characters (besides the inevitable "maveric scientist", played by John Goodman) played by young actors/actress doing a pretty good lecture on why this monstrous movie-franchise is going to continue... ;-)

This movie would have been darn near perfect, were it not for Samuel L. Jackson. Don't get me wrong, he's plays a loose cannon to perfection in movies like "Pulp Fiction," and "Lakeview Terrace". But it doesn't work in monster (creature-feature) movies such as this one. Seriously, he's like Kryptonite for this flick.Otherwise, this version did veer away from the more traditional plot of Kong taking women for his brides, and was in fact portrayed as more of a hero for protecting the island inhabitants from other monolithic creatures.The ending, with the face-off between creatures, was awesome. Particularly as Jackson had been dispatched by then.

When I first started watching this movie, I was little confused. But as the movie progressed,it all made sense. In the first scene,you see two guys fighting on a cliff, then all of a sudden, this giant hand appears and you don't want to mess with what you see.In other words, Don't go where you don't belong and Don't mess with the beast.Excellent movie and lots of action right from the get go.

I really liked this movie. It was full of surprises and had lots of action. A team of military and civilian people go to Skull Island. While on the island, they discover King Kong and some other prehistoric beasts that put them in danger. This film is about their fight to survive and plan to get to the other side of the island where they will be picked up. However, not everyone makes it off the island alive. If you liked the other King Kong movies, you will like this one.

What can I say, a different take on the "King Kong" type film but well worth it. Entertaining throughout. Some of the actors you just can't wait for them to get their "come upance" Entertaining throughout with enough small twists to keep the action interesting. I'll rate it worth it!
