WW2 Mauser K98 Sight Hood Protector

Got this for my 1942 K98, it’s a perfect fit. Only negative is that it is a huge pain to install. This is not the product’s fault, it’s just the way these are. My suggestion is to secure the gun (and make sure it is completely unloaded with the safety on) with the barrel at a good height, away from obstruction. Pad both sides of the hood with folded up paper towels or cloth, and use 2 sets of pliers against each other to open the hood all the way up. The quality of the hood is very nice and the metal is hard to bend so it will take some elbow grease. Good luck! If you’re on the fence about installing one, just do it. Get a more original sight and an easier one to look through at that.

Initially it fit pretty good, was great. Worked really well. As spring came I noticed a little surface rust on the outside. No problem, wipe it down, put a little oil on it and good as new. Currently July and the rust is past surface even after checking only a month or so ago. Live in Michigan so take that as you will. I would suggest if you do buy it keep an eye on the surface
