This printer is fantastic. A++, I'm in love.I've owned four 3D printers - the Printrbot is my fifth and easily my favorite. No 3D printer is perfect, they all need periodic maintenance, the Printrbot is no different. For this reason, I'd recommend the kit and not the assembled one - sure it takes time, and frankly can be frustrating. However when you're done you'll know what needs to be done if anything goes wrong...okay, negatives aside, because they're minor - this printer is amazing. I have had this work horse going non stop for about 30 days. I love it, my kids love it, even my wife is enjoying itin ~200 prints, I've had two failed prints making for about a 99% success rate. On other printers, I tended to get about 75%. The Printrbot is very smartly designed to "just work". It has no frills, and it's about as much fun as you can have for ~$600I've liked it so much that I bought the extended Z axis, the extended X axis, and the heated bed. Not joking, due to the auto level feature, you can print over the entire bed (standard it's 6"x6"x6", with the upgrades it's 10"x6"x10").it's great, it's built like a tank, and it's about as much fun as I think is possible for an inexpensive 3D printer.there is no question, of the printers I've owned {Makerbot, Prusa, XYZPrinting Nobal, and a homebrew}, this is the best one in almost every way.A+++ just buy it

Superb build wasted due to a poor controller board [7/22/2017 Update]
** 7/22/2017 update belowWhen it works it works well, it is very sturdy and almost no play in any axis. I have owned this for about a week now and might have printed about 20-25 prints. My success rate is about 33% and the reason being the printer just gives up half way through the print. It stops does nothing and sometime just resets and homes all its axis over and over. Done print ruined, I had several prints done upto 80% just to abort this way. After about 18 prints I had just another fail like this and then suddenly the Y axis lost its "bearing" it would home fine but any other command and it moved all the way to the very end. Mind you by this time I had flashed the board at least 3 times, more on that later, so much so that I attached a switch to the boot jumper. This time when I tried to flash I got the dreaded "Blank check failed at 0x00000" error, effectively means that the board/MCU is done. Tried ICSP but did not connect to the controller. Have contacted printrbot for a new board. Will update this with the communication from Printrbot.Printing results as follows:Cura Pronterface UI - 0 successful prints/4 printsCura Basic (Cura Slicer) - 1 successful prints/5 printsCura Basic (Slic3e) - 3 successful prints/5 printsRepetier Host (Slic3r) - 1 successful prints/5 printsSD Card print (Slic3r) - 2 successful prints/3 printsYour chance of a successful print increases if using SD card USB is very unreliable.Pros:Solidly build gantryNice machined partsVery open to modificationsCons:Printer controller seems computationally under powered and all of the issues are due to this board.** 7/22/2017 +2 starsPrintBot sent me a new board but by the time the board arrived I had already converted it to a RAMPS 1.4 + Marlin. In the earlier review I was lot more critical. After 2 years using this printer on a RAMPS 1.4 board I could not be happier. I still stand by my statements about the mechanics and they are top notch. In these 2 years I've upgraded to a heated bed and a larger X Axis and at times use this as a makeshift CNC to mill PCBs. The heated bed is easily connected to RAMPS. I've replaced the kapton tape on the heated bed and added a QidiTech mat for good adhesion. Though it never goes above 70/75C. ABS printing with ABS juice works.******2 stars are mainly due to the build quality but without a good controller board this printer is useless.*** Update+2 stars for going strong for 2+ years.****

Not for beginners!
I was very disappointed by this unit. I could not get it to print properly. I had a friend come over who had more experience than I do with these things and he couldn't get it to print! In the process of trying to get it to print, the thing went nuts and gouged a line about 2 inches long into the bed! Printrbot replaced the controller and then it seemed to work, but they wouldn't replace the bed. I ended up throwing it in my storage locker and getting a DaVinci Pro 1.0 - still had some issues, but was able to print.

It's a crappy product with terrible support from the manufacturer.
This printer has been a pain in the back side since I bought it. It took weeks to get it working printing with reasonable quality. I've had to replace the hot ends a bunch of times. The fan stopped working. They sent me a replacement and that stopped working too. Then the thing crashed in the middle of a print. It has taken 16 days of emailing back and forth and they have said they don't know if it's the system board or some other piece or both. Their support site says they respond to email within 2 days. My experience is that it's sometimes 2 but usually 3 days. When you're going back and forth answering questions, that's a long time to wait. 16 Days for me so far with no resolution. It should also be noted that the warranty (which is not listed on Amazon) is only 60 days! I was amazed that it was so short. I really wish I would have known this before purchasing. I would have made a better decision. Now, I know that 3D printing is a relatively new market and that it takes time to get things all straightened out. But, my neighbor has two different 3D printers and hasn't had nearly the issues I've had with this one. It's a crappy product with terrible support from the manufacturer. I strongly recommend that you don't buy this one.
