Q: Can this grass survive part sun, something like 3-4 hours of direct sun light?

It's amazingly tough. You shouldn't have any trouble. The secret in planting it is to soak the seeds for a day before you plant. Do so and you'll get a good stand. Do have a plan for keeping it contained. It will creep a couple of inches in a week. A light spray of Roundup knocks it right down.

Q: Will this grass support two golden retrievers peen on it?

I have 2 dogs and so far havent see any issues. Pretty tough grass.

Q: can this be used in northern Illinois (Chicago)?

I would check with the company. Buffalo grass is a warm season grass so would not have a long growing period in Illinois. There a newer cultivars that might perform better. Mine is wonderful but I am in hot dry Texas.

Q: can this be used in California's central valley?

Yes. Worked nicely in the Sacramento area. Follow the instructions on the package. Most notably, plant in Summer with warm temps and keep moist until growing well.
