Stranger (1977) [VINYL]

I bought this CD, out of curiosity and because it was fairly cheap.Usually I listen to Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Tina Dickow, Miles Davis, Nina Simone and that kind of stuff.Sometimes spiced with a bit of Metallica, Scorpions, Guns n Roses ;-)The actual album (CD1) is great!It is subtle enough to play in background while having a chat with guests and yet deep enough to stand actual listening to the lyrics - not deep-deep! Just deep.CD2 on the other hand is crap and I doubt I`ll ever put it on again.The tempo changes all the time and you ca`nnot really get into a particular mood by listening to it, because of the changes.It is only because of the diappointment of CD2, I won`t give the product all five stars.If mine broke or diappeared today, I would defintely buy the album again, but I wouldn`t pay extra for CD2.

I was waiting for this release to be available here, so the moent I saw it I had no dpoubts in my mind. The stranger is worth alone the price but the real treat was the carnegie hall concert. The audio is quite clear and rofesionally recorded and the selection of songs shows Billy and the band in top form. This concert was recorded before the release of the stranger, so dont get surprised if you hear some different arrangements on some of the stranger's songs. Especially "just the way you are".So, this is a very recommended purchase not only for BJ fans, but for those that can have pleasure with a top record a a very energetic performance of a rock n' roll band in top form.

Production is not great by today's standards but it sounds exactly as I remember it. Top product for it's nostalgia factor.

This 1977 album of "piano man" Billy Joel figures in most Top-1000 lists I've seen. Even if you didn't know it, you'll find most tunes are familiar. Not really my cup of tea, but if you're going to buy one Billy Joel album, make it this one. It's full of hits and, being a single album, flows much better than most compilations.
