Required reading for the NACM OFFICIAL CHRISTIAN CHAPLAINCY COURSE
As a member of National Association of Christian Ministers, this book is one of two books that are required reading for THE NACM OFFICIAL CHRISTIAN CHAPLAINCY COURSE.Upon receiving it, it contains much more that I initially expected. After reading through the table of contents, this will be one of my most treasured references. This book is a keeper!Thank you Dr. H. Norman Wright.I would recommend this book to:1) FEMA Emergency Management field officials2) Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Instructors and Team Members3) First Responders (Police and Firefighters)4) Clergy5) Hopsital Managers6) Hospices7) Non Profit Organizations8) Should be required reading at Academic Institutions of higher learning9) Anyone who wants to learn about

A guide but far from complete
I’ve only read a small portion, and that seems quite good, well written. Dr Wright is a licensed counselor and has written mostly about marriage, family and loss, from a Christian worldview (with which I agree). But as I looked for specific information about rape, incest and other sexual trauma—nothing, zero, not a whisper. I do not think it is appropriate to call this a “complete guide” if the author leaves out such an enormous and common source of trauma. A significant goal of this book is to help more people feel they know what to do when they encounter someone in crisis or dealing with trauma.Pain, fear, grief, loss, these are in the index, so there is general information that would definitely apply to all un-mentioned traumas.I’m sure it will prove useful but it is A guide, not THE COMPLETE guide it claims to be. I don’t want to be unfair; no book could cover every single kind of trauma humans can come up with.(Reviewing 2011 updated and expanded edition)

Great textbook for Counseling course
Comprehensive manual on helping people deal with trauma, both in the acute sense of a moment of crisis, as well as in the aftermath or renewal of past issues.

I love the book
I have read the whole book and I find it good for Pastors and other leaders involved in ministry. It has increased my knowledge in counseling and I am sure I will be referring to it in my counseling Ministry.

Good to have for Reference
This is truly made to be a guidebook that you look at when you are working in a crisis or trauma environment. Not the most interesting read when you read it straight through, but worth having on your shelf for reference if you plan to work in such environments.

helpful guide
Wright attempts to cover a lot of ground. 400 pages is a bit much on the one hand but on the other, some of the material is too cursory. In some cases it is even repetitive. I recommend this book to counselors but only if you have time to read.
