Great book for the jazz guitarist
If you want to play jazz, this book is a must! This book assumes that you know advanced music and scale theory, so be aware of that before buying it. There are 600 ii-V-I progressions that can be analyzed and played in all keys. This book could keep you busy learning for a whole year (or more)!I'm finding out that if it says "Berklee Press", it is worth it. Don't do like I did and waste your time with free music lessons on the internet that accomplish practically nothing (unless you are a teenage metalhead and want to look cool but have no substance behind you).

A fine interesting book that outlines voice leading
A fine interesting book that outlines voice leading. But only if you are an accomplished reader of music. Would recommend it.

Maybe not the most friendly book around on Jazz comping.
The entire book is written in standard music notation. There is no tab and not even a single chord frame or chord diagramme in the book. Unless you are an ace music reader and can work out chord shapes speedily reading standard music notation, this book is not going to be much use for you. You will end up spending a lot of time working out the fingerings of the chords with reference to the the standard music notation. Maybe some people enjoy this kind of thing. Some people have formal musical training, others have diplomas and degrees in music. Many don't.I can read music, but by no means an ace reader. My time will be better spent on books more friendly and down to earth. I am sure it never crossed the author's mind that students may have difficulties following the materials in the book. And I am sure the way the book was written gave a lot of satisfaction to the author.

Excellent book
Excellent progessive etudes gives us the perfect frame to learn voice leading (if you find some typos don't worry that much, it's part of learing :) ). Thomas adds a quite informative theory part. A must have.
