Q: Not sure about suggested age... 8 months to seven years? was considering for my almost nine and almost 11 year old. is this too old for this bolt?

8 months-7 Years is too young. Depending on how responsible your kid is, age 8-100000 is what I would suggest.

Q: Will this sphero work on carpet?

Yes, we use Kindles in our classroom to run all the Sphero robots, including Bolt.
