The Cherokee Herbal: Native Plant Medicine from the Four Directions

Beautiful book
What a wealth of knowledge and research, honestly explained to anyone seeking this sacred wisdom of plant healing. The author had to grapple with a number of issues, understandably, in relaying this ancient knowledge from people who have had everything stolen from them. I read this with deep gratitude and respect for the wise elders who shared it, the brave author who carefully researched and recorded it, and the incredible plants that provide us with so much more than I will ever know.

Lots of stuff inside
Wish I had this like 49 years ago. So, I have been half way through the book and it's incredible. Some of the things I already knew about from what my grandmother taught me. What I didn't realize is that I basically have most of this stuff right in my yard growing naturally. It's not just about medicinal or health-related benefits. There are things related to growing and caring for flowers, plants, fruit trees. Natural things you can use around the house instead of paying for those high price cleaners and other household products. Things for your pets.

This is an excellent historical look at traditional Cherokee Indian uses of herbs ...
This is an excellent historical look at traditional Cherokee Indian uses of herbs for health and healing. It saddens me to see how much of our common knowledge of the use of God's healing plants has been lost or ignored in our society. I am thankful to see this much recorded so that it does not become lost. Native Medicine Men and Women study their entire lives to learn the safe use of plants and herbs for healing. That cannot be recorded in a book. I am grateful to the Cherokee Elders, and JT Garrett in particular, for sharing this information with others in this wonderful book. Blessings to all who read it.

Essential Reference in Herbs of Southern Appalachia
Garrett is one of the absolute best and the information is solid. The writing is clear and well presented. Whether you are interested in herbology in general, those used for food and/or medicines, or you are interestd in Cherokee traditions, this is an essential reference.

Must have!
This is a must have for an herbal worker or holistic health practitioner AS WELL as anyone walking the Red Road or thinking the Red Road is for them. There is a lot of information here that is great to know and makes a lot of sense when you really think about it all. I've tried and used several of the herbs and things that have been used here for remedies and they work like a charm. You just have to know the basics of working with herbs as a medicine.
