Ishi: Simple Tips from a Solid Friend

Teachers of children of all ages are going to love this book. I have recently adopted Ishi The Rock in my Pre-K classroom. My students brought a rock from home, put a happy face on one side and a sad face on the other. We named our rocks and they are in a special “Ishi Bowl” in our class meeting place. During our gathering time, we periodically place our rocks in our laps and check in with how people are feeling. I LOVE THIS BOOK because Ishi is believable. Ishi can take any challenging feeling and turn it around by choosing happiness! In my class we are saying, “I 💜to be happy. Please purchase this book, pass it on and impact turning frowns upside down! 🤓

I bought this book for 2 dear friends who are both going through a challenging time. (We are in our 60s!) I got ‘Ishi’ rocks at the beach to go with each book. This is the perfect gift for ANY AGE, not just young children. (I think I’m going to order another copy for my 34 year old daughter.)Wonderful gift!

What a wonderful way for my students to spread happiness and kindness! We loved becoming Happiness Ambassadors and our passing our book to a different classroom in our school to see how many classrooms the book reaches by the end of the year! Each of my students brought in their own rock and wrote our own pieces of advice and photographed our rocks similar to the author. They absolutely loved this project!

This a beautiful book that reminds readers to find their happiness. Ms. Yabuki uses adorable illustrations of her pet rock Ishi to show kids (and adults) how to find the positive parts to life when they are feeling down, different, or lonely. She validates their feelings and then offers advice on how to find their inner peace and happiness. It certainly is deserving of all its awards.

I adore this little book! After seeing the reaction from one of my friends, I had to buy more of these. This is the prefect gift for any friend or special someone who needs a little pep talk. Ishi is soo cute!

I have baskets of stones in my classroom that we use to describe our feelings and emotions. I saw this book and I loved it! I knew my students would love it as well and they did. I have recommended this book to several of my educator friends who teach mindful awareness and all of us have have added it to our teachings! It's actually a beautiful book for every classroom.
