No Luck Programming This Radio
Tried their software to program this radio on three different computers all running Windows 10. Every computer got a run time error when trying to launch the software. Also tried Chirp with QYT KT 8900D and would only get an "Error radio Did not enter clone mode" with their programming cable. The program cable did install correctly but could not see the radio. Sent everything back to Amazon.

Really hard to tell the difference
I was looking for 3 radios. One for the house and one for each car. I decided to give the BTech UV 50X2 a try because of its $169.00 Price.. These being my first radios, I really don't know what to expect. I'm still learning. So, I contained myself from purchasing all three at the same time. The BTech arrived last week. But, my evaluation was delayed due to lack of a programming cable. I was about ready to purchase two more when I cam across these Socotran radios. The picture on Amazon looked very similar to the BTech that was sitting on my desk. Only it was $45 cheaper. I decided to give it a try. I purchased two.Side by side, they look identical, and they function exactly the same. The only minor differences that I can detect are the labels, and the Btech has 4 screws holding the speaker in place. I am using the same programming cable, and the same CHIRP software for both radios. Important to note that the SocoTran radio, as pointed out by another member is programmed in CHIRP as a QYT KT 8900 D

Get what you pay for
This radio is simple to operate and program, however, the quality of this product is what you would expect from a $150 radio. I am having receive issues with it and would not recommend this product.

Works Great and EASY to program.
Arrived quickly. Just as advertised. Used Ubuntu Linux and CHIRP to program. The latest Ubuntu has the drivers for this USB cable built in, so the driver disc wasn't even needed. Others have had trouble with programming, but this was easy. CHIRP recognizes the radio as a QYT-8900D and the USB cable shows up in the list of USB-to-serial ports at the bottom of the list as "/dev/ttyUSB0" in CHIRP. This baby is going in our motor home tomorrow! Thanks for the great radio!

Great radio - especially for the price.
I’ve had this installed in my vehicle for 6 months now. Zero issues. Been a HAM since the late 1970’s. Seen and had a lot of radios over the years. This one works well, power output very close to what the claim. Excellent radio reports. People think I am using a big name radio at 3 times the price, and just want to talk crap because THEY overpaid for theirs! Zero issues programming via CHIRP software. As with any modern radio is many menu’s - it takes a few hours of playing around with it to learn all the functions.
