Foxygen have joined Star Power. It is a punk band, and you can be in it, too. STAR POWER is the radio station that you can hear only if you believe. We're all stars of the scene. AND STAR POWER is the new double album from Foxygen, a cinematic auditory adventure for the speedy freaks, skull crunchers, abductees, and misfits - made by Foxygen at Dream Star Studios in their Secret Haunted House with the UFOs flying around in the sky.

Like some lost George Harrison Album, that got mixed up with Proto punk.
This is a hidden gem. A lot of people will and have panned this album, it's long, there are long sections of just noise and the lyncs are difficult to make out. But behind those flaws is another Neo Psychedelic masterpice. Sometimes it sounds like a Lost George Harrison album, sometimes it sounds like the Stooges. It's a great a ride and one I can't wait to go on again. This isn't everyone's cup of tea but in a world of Auto tune, and cookie cutter pop that sounds the same coughtorikelleycough and terrible Rap music an album like this is a breath of fresh air that shows that not only is good music still being made but even with old sounds and song structures, there is still creativity in music.

Take This Amusement Park Ride!!!
Is Foxygen the greatest band in the world right now? Probably. This double cd is their proper second album and is less conventional, more scattershot and lo fi than their stellar debut but it is stuffed with adventure as songs morph about , riffs burrow their way in and twinkling melodic codas abound. Patience is the key here. Subsequent listens reveal hidden pleasures and sweet sounds.Imagine no pun intended John Lennon as a member of The Rolling Stones. That is the feeling I get here. Heck "Everyone Needs Love " sounds like Lennon fronting a pseudo 70's disco soul pop band. While many influences converge they mainly sound like an updated version of the pop end of spectrum Stones like "Angie" and "Between The Buttons." They also share a perversity with band like the Stones and The Smiths with singer Sam France coming across like some misfit nephew of Mick Jagger. Part One of the album contains a run of soulful rum infused pop songs whereas the Star Power potion as one critic put it sounds like a lost Nilsson rock opera. "The Overture" features the cutest piano motif and "What are we good for" starts off sounding like Lou Reed before jumping into an insanely catchy chorus that kicks ass. Part Two features three stunners "I Don't Have ......." , "Flowers" and Cannibal Holocaust are all addictive winners that weave to and fro. The notorious bad ass third part features some heavy duty psychedelic power riffing and crunch that amount to stuffing but the middle pack of songs are quite engaging culminating in the terrific Stones like riffing on " Freedom II".The two final songs on Part Four help soften the landing. What's next for Foxygen? Will they implode or even lose their mojo overnight? Or is their long predicted masterpiece lurking in the talented fever pitch minds of Jonathan Rado and Sam France?: We can only hope. Stay tuned.

A bloated mess
I will start by saying that I love Foxygen- We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic was easily one of my favorite albums for some time and I saw them recently (Boston) and they were awesome. Unfortunately …And Star Power is just a mess. There are fragments of genius here-some of the sounds are really great. You just have to get through a bunch of slop to get the gems. I am sure they thought they were putting together some brilliant concept album, borrowing from VU to create a modern noise rock/punk/psychedelic masterpiece, but it just feels like a bloated mess which could have used quite a bit of editing to make a single great album rather than 2 overwrought albums. The live show was amazing, with the backup singers bringing a great dimension and energy to many of these songs that is just lacking on the album.

The album is fantastic. The first disc is packed with catchy 70s sounding pop/ soft rock while the second disc is like an avant garde garage rock show. It's a bit different than their previous album, but still very satisfying. Foxygen's might rip off their songs from classic rock bands, but it works. You can hear hints of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, ELO, Black Sabbath, and many more throughout the album. '...And Star Power' also has some very satisfying guests on a few of the tracks. I've been listening to the album on repeat all week.

Great rock opera
Definitely a candidate for album of the year. Great rock opera, double LP, which could have been released in 1972 and been a hit! Some songs are more pop, others more punk, but this is one of those albums you listen to as a whole collective piece. Foxygen is a great young band, will be spinning this record for a while.

Can you hear it?
Foxygen walk a difficult line between awesome ambition and throwaway irrelevance. They're hard to get a solid grip on. Are they serious? Yes, but not entirely. Are they just two kids playing at being a rock band? Yes, but not entirely. Are they derivative? Yes, but not entirely. This for me is what makes them just about the most interesting band out there at the moment. In an age where every other band is trying to show how deep and real they are, Foxygen are not the most earnest artists and that frees them up to have an awful lot of fun. And that in turn is an awful lot of fun to listen to.You could even say they're a bit...well...silly. Silliness has never been a respected trait in music. I can't think of many musicians who've managed to combine silliness with prolonged success and a genuine artistry. Beefheart, perhaps. Queen I suppose. Anyway there aren't many. What I love about Foxygen is that if you weren't listening properly, you might not even notice the silliness. It's subtle, sometimes. It gets drowned out by the relentless charge of ideas and genre-mashing. And yes, a lot of the ideas are other people's, broken up and reconstituted but it's to miss the point to say they purely steal other people's work. Everything is filtered through Foxygen's aesthetic and the consequence is that all the music they've put out so far has a consistent artistic voice. In fact that's about the *only* consistent thing about them. This album is long. It sprawls. It unwinds and then snaps back into focus. It surprises you in turns by making you want to dance, then laugh, then listen closely, then think. You can have a track that is pure pop like "How can you really?" but also something difficult to the point of near unlistenability like "Cold Winter/Freedom". You can have songs like "Everyone Needs Love" where the lyrics push banality to the limit ("Everyone needs love, you got to try..try..try, you got to hold on...hold on") and songs like "I don't have anything/The Gate" which is so abstract it is nonsensical (but still the best track on the album IMO). It makes most albums by contemporary artists sound like one song repeated 10 times. It's not as listenable as We Are The 21st...." and not as relentlessly shapeshifting as "Take the Kids off Broadway" but it is, by far, the most ambitious album I heard last year. Give it time, let it sink in, like all the best music if you put in the effort of a few listens it starts to pay off handsomely. One day Foxygen will get the acclaim they deserve, until then feel smug in appreciating the genius that hides itself in these songs.

Misunderstood...
I'd give this album a strong 4 stars. I was a little apprehensive due to the mixed reviews. But I was pleasantly surprised. While it's not immediate, it's interesting and keeps you going back for more. It was also the first album I'd heard by Foxygen so I went in blind and didn't have my expectations raised by its successful predecessor. It's a bit like the Clash's Sandinista album - It's varied and while it's not as eclectic in styles. It's also a flawed album that you'll learn to love. I can see this album being reappraised in a decade or so, and being heralded as a lost classic.

Werden tatsächlich immer noch besser...!!!
In dieses Album muss man sich reinhören! Warum? Star Power l bis lV (Overture, StarPower Nite, What are we good for, Ooh Ooh) Eine Flower - Power Mini - Oper!!!10. I don't have anything/The Gate - Wieder ein gehauchter Song mit der Gospel-Stimme von Shaun Fleming; "when the man comes" - Ooh, Ooh!!!11. Jahrhunderts!!! Wow!!!
