I consider myself as a handy person but locating the sensor in a non-vulnerable location and feeding wires into the passenger compartment was difficult. The sensor actually just sticks on to the undercarriage of the car. I was very wary that it would eventually fall off and it did. I also found, early on that driving on a muddy road blocks the sensor from working so you have to be pro-active about keeping it clean. All-in-all I wish that Mercedes had resolved this very common problem but the Curb Alert hasn't provided an answer for me. ### ⭐⭐⭐ I CONCUR WITH JAYEBEE *by P***R on April 2, 2014* My dealer installed this Curb-alert, which is more or less inconspicuous, but not as much as I would prefer, as his interpretation of an OEM-equivalent solution. Nonsense! Many/most mid-and higher-end cars now come with front proximity alerts that have a very clean built in quality like their rear ones. Found a stereo shop that works closely with dealer to do exactly same, clean install for around, $4-500 INCLUDING 4-6 built in , OEM-appearance sensors in front & side of bumper + total professional install. Expensive, but what does an air dam cost? His concern is calibration of the obstacle height, which is tricky. All in all a big pain on a brand new CTS-V and not at all happy with the Curb-alert. Can't believe Cadillac didn't offer this as an option on their "flagship" rocket, when its available on so many of their other models... WITHOUT air-dams hanging 2" off the ground, and a great fondness for curb blocks. Even on some current econo-boxes . The car handles and goes at an awesome level, full of high-tec suspension, etc, but I guess Cadillac felt electronic assists, like that and radar cruise control (like the one on my 10-yr old Infinity Fx) are for sissy's. Real men (and women) never, never, ever get distracted, no matter how slowly the traffic is moving, or how boring the road may be. (See following as to WHY they can never afford to be distracted!) (BTW ... what's with the EASY, UNCONSCIOUS, UNAWARE, UNDIFFERENTIATED steering wheel button, adjacent to ,and IDENTICAL TO, the cruise control button -EXACT same size, texture, height, feel, etc ... which --- get this --- can - if your hand bumps into it while using the paddles, disable your various traction control, including stability-control (eg over-steer) function in the middle of driving (as in goosing it around a nice 2 lane curve - so you end up over-steering into the oncoming lane in a heartbeat without realizing you have just changed that setting unconsciously while steering ??? Whoa Tonto - this ain't much fun, doubly so in the rain -- esp on the kind of switchback roads one seeks out with a car like this- eso since the stability control features function so well and raise every Walter Mitty's driving skills to a far higher level. It's OK - even terrific - if you're ready , set it, and expecting it; it's NOT OK when it cuts out unexpectedly, mid-curve, on ramp, etc --- instead of having the button in a more protected - requiring more clear intention and awareness - more protected location (like the selector toggle between "sport" vs-"sedate cruising (really!) suspension) on the center console .... What a fantastic car, only marred by a couple life-threatening minor inconveniences!!! Any ideas? Anyone ??? Please ... Sorry to rant, but, you can see the way this can result in some real interesting situations. If any of you have a CTS-V and have figured out a workaround to this, I'd love to hear about it. Doesn't really lend itself to a flip-up switch cover absent screwing up the steering wheel and spending my 401k on a custom shop fabrication. Sadly, NOT happy w/ curb alert at all, and may well bite the bullet, uninstall it, and go for a built-in option. Really PO'd at Cadillac. Oh well, I guess I'll just drive it at Nuremberg Ring!
