This authoritative and comprehensive history of Iran, written by Homa Katouzian, an acclaimed expert, covers the entire history of the area from the ancient Persian Empire to today’s Iranian state. Writing from an Iranian rather than a European perspective, Katouzian integrates the significant cultural and literary history of Iran with its political and social history. Some of the greatest poets of human history wrote in Persian—among them Rumi, Omar Khayyam, and Saadi—and Katouzian discusses and occasionally quotes their work. In his thoughtful analysis of Iranian society, Katouzian argues that the absolute and arbitrary power traditionally enjoyed by Persian/Iranian rulers has resulted in an unstable society where fear and short-term thinking dominate. A magisterial history, this book also serves as an excellent background to the role of Iran in the contemporary world. Review: This book is the best summary-type Iranian history book of the past 2 - I had read the Farsi translation of this book (printed in Iran) before I bought it. The Farsi translation is done extremely well, but due to restrictions imposed on what could or could not be printed in Iran (due to the "gangster" nature of government in Iran,) the last two chapters of the book (which contained history of the current "government" over the past 36-years) were missing in Farsi version. This book is the best summary-type Iranian history book of the past 2,500 to 3,000 years that I have seen and read. I recommend this book to everyone, specially all Iranian-Americans, and to their families-- the best book to familiarize young generation with Iranian history. I also highly recommend the Farsi version (translation)-- all unfamiliar Farsi and Arabic names (in English language) can be easily read and understood in Farsi Translation. Otherwise, readers who do not have Farsi language background, would have problems to follow-up the history in the English version, alone. This book is the best Iranian summary-type history book that (I believe) has been researched and prepared by a very qualified person, and printed, over the past 100 years. I also believe that the funding for such a First Class work must have come from U.S. government-- perhaps from the U.S. National Security apparatus. Thank you, Professor Katouzian. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Amazon 売れ筋ランキング | 洋書 - 680,152位 ( 洋書の売れ筋ランキングを見る ) Iran History - 602位 Ancient European History - 978位 Medieval History - 2,128位 | | おすすめ度 | 5つ星のうち4.4 112 レビュー | ## Images ![The Persians: Ancient, Mediaeval and Modern Iran - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/712BulFlZBL.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Media Format** options. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ sorvolo panoramico sulla storia della Persia... *by F***I on 2018年3月6日にイタリアでレビュー済み* Vengono presentate le fasi di continuità e di rottura nella storia della Persia/Iran. It has been a tale of periods of stability under a strong shah then a brutal fight to determine the next one, and so on. For a new reader to the story from then on it was difficult to get a sense of the country over the centuries. One conflict, war and betrayal after another. The modern story was more detailed and comprehensible. ## Frequently Bought Together - The Persians: Ancient, Mediaeval and Modern Iran - A History of Iran: Empire of the Mind - Iran: A Modern History --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.com.au/products/734394085-the-persians-ancient-mediaeval-and-modern-iran](https://www.desertcart.com.au/products/734394085-the-persians-ancient-mediaeval-and-modern-iran) --- *Product available on Desertcart Australia* *Store origin: AU* *Last updated: 2026-10-09*
