Beautiful addition to my collection
This isnt your typical thrift store cheap pipe. Beautifully made, the feel is like it was made specific to your hand. No excess heat in the bowl. I will say after reading reviews I've determined those who had a pipe failure are packing tobacco to tight and have not allowed for a proper break in. I expect many wonderful years out of my new churchwarden savinelli. Huge thank you to the craftsmen behind its design. She will be front and center of my pipe stand and already my favorite smoker*update*Still early into break in of this wonderful pipe. Wanted to mention that the briarwood on my is still a tad sappy. Meaning duringing break in you will here the natural oils of the pipe and your tobacco heat and "cook" this is a great sign. Several pipes I've purchased in the past are too dry and that shortens their life as they dont have the chance of a proper break in (curing of the wood) itll be important to break in slowly running 1/4 fill for about the first 10 sessions then slowly adding more. If you pack a sappy pipe to tight (and full) you'll damage it. Stick to the 1/4 ×10 1/2 ×10 etc.. until you've stopped hearing the curing process. Or you'll split your pipe or worse burn through it.Again this is a true briarwood, great pipe to own I love mine. If you're new to smoking research breaking in a briarwood before just firing up and it should last you a lifetime. Also a side note to single pipe users if you continue to smoke the same pipe over and over without letting it sit to reabsorb its oils you'll damage it. This is true to any pipe so buy you a couple pipes, I use this one as my evening lounger, which gives it a good 18 hours to absorbed its oils. This also conditions the much desired cake to give you that sweet nutty flavor note we all seek in a pipe. I'm going to be purchasing a few more styles from this maker. This is one of the best pipes I've ever owned. High quality craftsmanship

Amazing pipe! Amazing seller!
This pipe is beautiful, and feels great in the hand. I was extremely happy with the price, seeing as how this pipe sells for almost double locally. It was so nice that I immediately ordered a second Savinelli

Spend the money (especially if you are new to all this)!
I just started smoking a pipe about a month ago and I began with, what “all the experts” suggest which was a “beginners corncob pipe.” And I HATED it. Finally, I was able to “sort” of smoke and “sort” of keep it lit for longer than two seconds and thought “well, let’s go crazy and get a nice pipe.” Good LORD this is soooooo much easier to smoke with, far more enjoyable to deal with, and just FEELS good in the hand. A worthy investment!

a lovely addition to my rotation
First off, this church warden is lovely to look at. The stain is truly black and the finish doesn't run if you get a bit of water on it like another pipe i use. The long stem cools the smoke and is a welcome feature for a greedy smoker like me, who makes the cherry just a bit too hot. The only downside I've noticed is because I'm a greedy smoker, the walls are a bit thinner than I'd like and my hand was pretty toasty. If anything, i hope it'll teach me to slow down a bit. The first bowl i smoked through it was a nice cherry aromatic and i didn't notice any off tastes. Now that I've charred it for the first time, I've rinsed it with a bit of brandy, and I'm hoping it will leave behind a subtle ghost that will make the same cherry tobacco just a bit more complex, and maybe even my favorite BCA.

Great pipe!
I loved this pipe. Well made and iconic. I ended up returning this unfiltered version to get the 6mm filter Savinelli churchwarden version so I could use charcoal filters in it.

Has some condensation issues...
First, I like this pipe, I do... However, this pipe has some serious condensation issues. I've tried 5 different kinds of tobacco, everything from blends to aromatics, cake pressed, flake and ribon cut tobaccos all with the same results. Even with purposefully slow and shallow draws, however, doing that helps... I think the balsa wood filtration system that most all Savinelli pipes have would definitely help with the condensation issues this pipe has. In addition, I'm not a fan of the bowl coating, which takes smoking several bowls to burn off that gunk which gives off a horribly nasty taste! Aromatic blend tobaccos help that way, just an FYI... Another thing about this churchwarden, is finding pipe cleaners that're long enough to clean the stem can be a challenge. Other than that, I like this pipe a lot! It smokes well (other than the condensation and break in issues) and has a nice smooth and cool draw. Definitely like the rusticated finish on churchwarden pipes... Not that one couldn't clench this pipe (I usually don't), the textured finish makes holding on to them much easier! I have some other concerns of delicacy with the extended stem, but so far simply being careful with it works. I really enjoy this pipe with a nice aromatic tobacco... The longer stem and cooler smoke of this pipe enhances the tobacco flavor (IMO) and dramatically reduces the risk of tongue bite... Especially if you slow down the smoke!
