Engrossing
It’s 1050pm on February 17th, 2014. I just finished the autobiography of Madison Young. Ms. Young has been an indirect part of almost my entire adult life, for reasons that may make people uncomfortable. There is an old saying that means we should never get to know our heros, because we will be disappointed by their flaws, autobiographies are windows into meeting those heros. But they will be skewed to their perspectives, to make them shine in in a certain way. That is not a knock on this book however. This book is a beautifully written memoir about love;dedicated at least in spirit to the two main men of her life., her father and her “Daddy”. Similar to how Howard Stern’s private parts was really about Robin and his then Wife, the book focuses on her relationships with not only these two men, but her own. It is also the love for finding one’s own self identity, the love of one’s offspring and most importantly the love for oneself. The pages flow like rivers making the book hard to put down. I found myself eagerly going from chapter to chapter, perhaps a little too greedily as this book was supposed to last me a while (stupid unemployment cutting into my book fund). For those who are sexually squeamish, you may want to avoid parts of this book. For trained counselors, part of this cause the hairs on the back of your neck to stand up.You want to judge her for putting up with abuses; but I found that I cannot. Instead I turned pages faster and faster giddily laughing at some points (Wednesday nights with her Daddy’s); to feeling my heart break when she was at her lowest. This book allows the reader to vicariously live through her, and cheer for her.A definite recommendation if you want to read an autobiography about someone who is sex positive and with a unique view of sexuality.Beautifully written, I hope that years from now there is a sequel.

Far From Where you Are
"In writing Daddy: A Memoir, Madison Young reveals that we are a collection of psychological constructs that shape our loves, biases, and communities, be they social, religious, political, recreational, or in this case, familial and sexual.Madison’s search for Daddy is a reconciliation of two men in her life, first her Ohio father and later her West Coast lover, BDSM dominant, James Mogul. But Daddy is greater than any one person, as Madison’s odyssey tells us."The book is well-written with a brisk pace that moves the reader through Madison’s conservative Midwestern childhood to her sexual awakening in California’s sunny liberalism. Daddy is a personal experience with a bit of salacious writing tossed in to give the reader a look at adult film’s fetish and bondage community."(This complete review can be found here: http://3hattergrindhouse.com/2014/05/28/far-from-where-you-are/)

Wonderful insight into Madison's relationships
As a big fan of her work (and James Mogul's) it was very interesting to get a peek into their history, relationship, and family all while participating in the biggest venue for American BDSM culture. I don't know if someone who was not aware of her previous work, or a fan would necessarily enjoy it as much as I did, from a voyeuristic standpoint (and basic nosey-ness/interest). Wonderfully written, brave, and moving.

So Brave!
The thing is I love to read about women who make their dreams come true. But the bravery it took for Madison Young to write this story, makes this book for me somehow more than just inspirational. Her story about chasing her dreams is compelling, raw, and honest. I couldn't put it down.

Madison is an amazing woman and her vulnerability and thoughtfulness in this book ...
Well written and enticing memoir. Madison is an amazing woman and her vulnerability and thoughtfulness in this book is ever present. I recommend this book especially to women who have struggled with their relationships with men and their own identity. Also good for those interested in the BDSM dynamic and lifestyle.

Surprisingly dull
The book is surprisingly dull given the salacious subject; it lacks the command of figurative language evident in books like Toni Bentley's THE SURRENDER. Most sentences are not bad, exactly, but they're flat and as easy to read as fan fic when they should at least aspire to literature. Cliches abound ("My heart begins to race:" page 5).There is a better book lurking in this one. Bentley's lifetime of reading shows in her writing. Would that I could say the same for DADDY.

I was so disappointed by this book. It's incredibly shallow and simply tells a story without any insight or depth. I didn't feel I knew anything more about their relationship or the Daddy/Little Girl dynamic at the end of the book. I never got any sense of her interaction with anyone else as the book is a massive humblebrag with tones of superiority toward everyone else and no accountability. It tells you nothing about BDSM or how Madison Young got her break. The undertone is that because she's just so fabulous and in demand. I was infuriated in all ways and only finished it to see if it got any better. It is well written and kept me turning pages which is why I didn't give one star, but I don't recommend unless you are a massive Madison Young fan.

Biografía menos interesante de lo que aparenta.
Parece que prometa más de lo que da. Parece que quiere dar una explicación de su forma de ser, pero queda demasiado simple y típica.
