Good book to have around the shop

Complete instructions and very good photos.

The only issue I had was that several parts, including the headstock, on my lathe are different from what is in the book. Now mine is a SB heavy 10 from 1940, bearing setup and other things are different, but you really can't expect the book to cover every single iteration SB put out; if you are refurbishing a lathe in the first place you will need to have enough mechanical knowledge to figure things out anyway though.

This book is packed with disassembly and reassembly instructions and pictures for all parts of the lathe. If you need this book, you really need this book.

What an amazing reference! A must have for anyone with an old South Bend 13

its large print so in theory it has twice as many pages as it neededIf you plan to go step by step and do what the author did, its good. But if you need to remove one part of the lathe for repair or cleaning, its not so great. I ended up buying a reprint of the original exploded drawing ( w part numbers) because I only needed to clean the apron gears.

I liked that the book provides guidance but it omits many steps that are important. And in all honesty, South Bend lathes had many variations which cannot all be covered. So do yourself a favour and watch lots of restoration videos.
