36 PCS Precision GAGE Block Set W. NIST Equivalent Certificate,Grade B, 702-36B

So at first I was sceptical of purchasing due to the price, however having read the reviews I took a chance. The blocks took over a week to arrive,but that was the window it was estimated at so it was on time. The blocks are nice, the box is decent, the blocks are wrapped in wax paper for protection and are shipped with SO much bubble wrap. I'm not sure how there inspection process is done so I tested a couple blocks. The blocks have individual engravings for size and serial to match the serial the certification. It appears that they match up serials as the should. I tested the .1004 block which was said to have -1 deviation i tested this with a starret optical comparitor and various mics. I got -2 deviation and the mics all read .1004 for grade b blocks a -2 deviation is really good. So I would say the certification is pretty close to true through testing, still should be used for setting sine bars instead of calibration. These are tool makers blocks something to be used on the shop floor and as such there a really food purchase. I use them for setting distances between tooling on Davenport screw machines such as form rolls. The only issue I have is the laser engravings some are darker than others and some are extremely faint. I have good eyes and can tell what they say with high finish, but goodbye faint lettering when they get oil on them. No big deal I just clean them up, anyway good purchase for tool makers or home shops using wider tolerances could use for calibration.

Gauge blocks arrived with plenty of corrosion protection. A layer of brown paper, a clear plastic bag, a layer of wax paper, another layer of wax paper inside the box, each block wrapped in wax paper and finally each block coated in a thick waxy grease. All that corrosion protection worked. All blocks measured exactly correct with a 0.0001" micrometer. They wring together like they should. I wonder about the included inspection report though. The date is March 2004. Were the gauge blocks sitting around unsold for 16 years ?

If you don't need a full 81 piece set, and you want really good precision, then this set may be for you. The blocks ring together just like they should. I don't have a way to check their accuracy, but I am impressed with the price and the quality. The box is nice, but not fancy. This set is made in China but don't let that stop you. As far as I can tell, they are excellent quality for the shop. Use these to calibrate your measuring tools and use them for other purposes. I'm really glad I bought this set rather than a larger set that was Grade B.
