I was pleasantly surprised by the level of care the manufacturer put into these devices. They are very well made and inexpensive. You get 2 hydrometers in the box. They are exactly the same. I have checked them in pure water and in 50% vodka and received an accurate result. I do not have a glass test jar, so I used a regular bottle. The hydrometers are small enough to pass through the opening. The instruction sheet is included with each device. Make sure you read it and use the correction table, if the liquid temperature is other than 60 degrees F.The hydrometers are made out of glass, but there were no damages thanks to the excellent packaging. It is very rare to see this level of attention to every little detail. If I could, I would give this product more than 5 stars.

The price is out of this world especially for 2 ! Hubby makes his own homemade liquor and when I saw this I had to immediately order it ! ( he broke his and hasn’t been able to find a replacement ! ) this came with 2 in the order so I hide one and gave him the other (so we would have a backup ) ! It fits in his original hydrometer case wonderfully ( a little smaller than original space but that’s better than too big ) ! Easy to use and even easier to read the results ! He’s overjoyed with it and I’m glad I no longer have to listen to him whining !

These work well for determining distilled spirits. I am an avid home distiller and brewer. I use these any time I need to tell the proof of my distilled liquids, and they are very accurate.

Theses are basic but useful hydrometers. If you've used them you know they're pretty easy to break, so it's always good to have two. They also come with some basic instructions.You'll need a tall tall thin glass cylinder to complete the measurement. I typically use a glass 250ml graduated cylinder as glass will give you the most accurate readings. You can also get a hydrometer jar, which is basically the same thing.I measured them against multiple big name 80 proof spirits I had, and both hydrometers read out at just a hair under 80. For the life of me I couldn't find my graduated cylinder, so I used a tall pilsner glass, and I'm going to assume that accounts for the slightly off measurement. These are certainly accurate enough for my needs.They're easy to use, easy to read. The printing is clear and on a yellow background which helps it stand out.They come with some cardboard tubes for protection. I'd prefer something a bit more sturdy and less prone to degradation around wet materials, like a plastic case, but it does the job okay to protect them when you're not using them.Overall these are a pretty good value, you get two of them for a very reasonable price.

Checked accuracy with 3 commercially available liquors and they look to be within ~1%. No complaints.

I got these for trying my hand at home distilling, as my distilling equipment for essential oils did not come with such devices. I tested these in some store bought liquor and they were nearly spot on to what the bottle said. I think for the price you can't go wrong, especially if you're just figuring out if distilling is right for you. They came packed in cardboard tubes so they had no damage. The markings are easy to read.

I misread the price when I ordered, and thought it was a great price for an alcohol hydrometer, but you get TWO hydrometers for~$10! That makes this an unbelievably good price for a set!The glass hydrometers come individually packaged in sturdy cardboard. The gage is easy to read and shows percent alcohol by volume (ABV) and proof (1-200). The hydrometers are long enough that it is easy to get a precise reading within about a half a percent - so really "professional grade".Hydrometers are inexpensive and accurate in general, but be aware that their one downside is that they require the use of enough depth of alcohol so that the device floats in it. That means usually the use of a graduated cylinder or a 1.75l of alcohol. The higher the alcohol content, the taller the container you need. The good news is that you can buy inexpensive graduated cylinders on Amazon.
