Composer's Exposition and Review
I recorded FORK in around 1988-89 using a Fostex 4-track cassette deck and Shure SM-57 microphone. The songs were largely ones I had performed extensively in the East Village in NYC, at Knitting Factory, CBGB and the Liz-Mar Lounge. It's interesting to see reviews of this album popping up 22 years after the fact. I suppose that I will now archive and preserve the lo-fi basement sound in high-quality digital form! The fun part, of course, was forging the songs through performance under the baleful glare of the post-punk, improv, noise rock mindset of the time. The songs are humorous, but the humor was definitely NOT appreciated at the time. One local reviewer deemed the Thrash version of "Wildfire" to be "unlistenable". It is possible, then, that his inability to listen to the music may have influenced his review.I appreciate this recent review. There are people out there, hey!Current music by "Dan Rhetoric" (now under the name "EtherGun" or Daniel Robinson) is available on [...], [...] and [...]. A recent album (2010) of electronica music, entitled "Eternity Bass", is available on iTunes and [...].The song "Flommy the Robot" has evolved into a science-fiction book series and part one, "Flommy the Robot: Attack of the Robot Planet" is available on Amazon.com. This album is worth having for the first track, Thrash Wildfire, alone. As implied it is a "thrash" version of the 1975 cheese song "Wildfire". Several other songs (This is Not What I Paid For, Flommy the Robot, We Used Your Car) are fun as well, as long as you can get past the basement tape audio quality.Track Listing:# 01 Thrash Wildfire# 02 This is Not What I Paid For# 03 Fightin Myself# 04 Casper the Friendly Ghost# 05 I Like You Too Much# 06 Flommy the Robot# 07 My Downtown# 08 We Used Your Car# 09 You Got One Song# 10 Miss PerfectUnfortunately it's long out of print....
