Troybilt 42X Mower
This seems to be a solid built machine. The 547cc engine has more power than you will need. Does well on hills and rough grounds. Has spin on oil filter for extended engine life. The 42 inch mowing deck with front deck wheels keep from scalping your grass in rough conditions. It seems to be a great machine delivered to your door step. Also has mow in reverse which is a big plus.

Poor Quality & Worse Customer Service
I purchased a Troy Bilt Pony in 2017 It worked fine for 1 year and 9 months. At that point it started giving problems shifting to go forward. Reverse was not a problem. I took it into the shop and they told me the transmission would have to be replaced however they were no longer a Troy Bilt authorized shop. Fortunately it had a two year warranty so I called Troy Bilt and they assigned me a case number and gave me the name of an authorized repair shop. After a week I got a call that my mower was ready. Upon arrival I was told that it was simply "mud & grass build up in the linkage" that was pressure washed clean and if it happened again I would simply have to pressure wash it!! I got it home and half way through mowing it would not shift into forward. So it took one year and nine months for the grass & mud to build up the first time and now it only took 45 minutes!?!? I returned it to the same shop and I was told that they could not find anything "mechanically wrong with the machine". I called Troy Bilt again and they wanted to transfer me to a department where they could tell me how to fix the problem. I told them that I personally didn't want to fix it but that I wanted them to fix it as it was still under warranty. They transferred me anyway, where I was on hold for an incredibly long time before I finally hung up. Bottom line is that I have a piece of crap mower sitting behind my shed!! I'll be shopping for a new mower this spring and rest assured it WILL NOT be a Troy Bilt!

Good product for the money.
The transmission shifter is a bit cheezy but works. The mower is pretty well built and will do my lawn cutting and clean up just fine

Not a great machine
My 20 year old craftsman LT 2000 stripped the camshaft cog and I was debating buying this one because my neighbor had just gotten one and it looked niceHaving driven his I was convinced repairing mine was the best option . It was uncomfortable to drive , was less stable because it was lighter and taller . Underpowered and could not be switched from forward to reverse gears without disengaging the bladesThin material and chassis . I doubt he will get three years out of it without problemsMy craftsman cost $450 to replace the camshaft but I’m much happier riding it !

Awesome little riding mower
I've used the riding mover for a couple years on 1-1/2 plus acres of rough terrain with thick grass works well never a problem. I usually take the deck off once a year to remove the blades and sharpen, pressure clean and paint the underside.

TOY bilt
I used this mower recently, luckily borrowed and not mine or I would have been mad to spend the money. This mower is a complete joke: uncomfortable ride, vibrations everywhere, and when I hit a small section of my gravel driveway trying to mow along the edge of my yard, it immediately bent the blade and made an awful racket. Mind you these are small gravel pieces which my other mower (toro timecutter) spits out with no problem if I happen to hit them, same with small sticks or other yard debris. When I jacked up the mower to look at the blade, it was bent to nearly a 90 degree angle. From a quarter sized gravel chunk. The controls are chintzy cheap too and you can tell they won't last, like the deck and the plastic toy hood. Mowers aren't made like they used to be. Get yourself an old school craftsman that's 20 years old or older if you want it to last. This thing by toy bilt is awful.

Hard Pass on Troy-Bilt/MTD/Cub Cadet
Parents gifted me a 17.5 hp, 42 inch deck Pony model for my new home, right out of the box the axle was defective, did not move forward or backward and cost MTD $550 and almost a month to repair through one of their service facilities. CVT version is a disaster and is somewhat unsafe. Let's put the accelerator and brake in one pedal.... Brilliant. Already had a level 8 sketchy moment with it. Always go feet in when in a panic!!! DO NOT LIFT!
