The Big Book of the Blue (The Big Book Series)

Great book!
My 3 year old son really loves this book. The illustrations are fun and eye catching, and the facts are short and interesting, which is perfect for his age. There is a visual index and he likes to refer to that index to pick a page to read. We have owned the book for probably a month and he asks us to read it every night before bed. He already had an interest in ocean animals, but I feel like this book really has held his interest enough that I was motivated to buy “The Big Book of Bugs.” It’s a long book with lots of info, so a very good value for the cost. I have read it in one sitting once and it took about an hour to get through the whole book.

AMAZING book that keeps kids and adults engaged and learning
This book has SO many great facts about ocean animals. It was teaching my 8 year old, my husband, and I all fun facts...and we had FUN learning! The illustrations are colorful and fun. We have re-read this book many times and it never gets old. WELL WORTH EVERY PENNY. Honestly. I bought the other bug, bird, beast books from this series because of this book and they are all excellent...but this one is our absolute favorite! 100/10. ;)

Fantastic for my homeschooling kindergartener
I wanted to expand on an ocean section in my son’s science textbook in a fun way, which led me to this. However, I wasn’t sold until I saw it had a sticker book companion. As much as I loved the quick and easy fun-filled facts on every page, I didn’t feel I could get him to sit still long enough without a related activity to excite him about the information. I liked that it involved no writing (but you are excoriated to doodle if you want) and included the stickers correlating with exactly what I was reading. We have done 1 a day and have about 5 days left until we finish the sticker book. This was such a great learning tool and so much fun for both of us. I plan to get the sticker book again when my next child enters kindergarten and look into the other books in the series for other mini units in the next school year.Observations I noticed: the reading book has a few more pages than the correlating pages in the sticker book offer. The sticker book does not follow the sequence of the reading book’s table of contents. Lastly, it wasn’t clear until we almost finished, but many of the fish stickers are extras to be used with the themes of the pages like “whales” and “jellyfish” etc and do not get their own page.

"Flipping awesome" fish and more; it's marine life on the fun side
This is a zany book for parents who want to interact with their kids in a fun way. I think you will be oohing and aahing along with them; I’m pretty sure you’ll find out some new, interesting facts, too. And teachers, this is a treasure. Not only does the wonderful artwork pull you into a whole new world with each page, but you are asked questions like, “Does a seal live in the sea or on land?”, and “how do fish move?”. The answers are fascinating. Plus, author Zommer likes to play with words. The whale is “in for the krill”. Kids who are developing their reading skills will find it helpful that each 2-page category tends to have a lot of repetition, like the pages that cover seahorses, and the ones that cover snakes that live underwater, and flying fish.Kids who live near a body of water will recognize some facts and learn about others. Kids who don’t live near the water will recognize facts they’ve learned on TV and enjoy learning new ones.Yuval Zommer may have a master’s degree in illustration, but he thinks like a kid and has the same creative ideas. And for this book he consulted Dr. Barbara Taylor, a NOAH scientist. So, the facts are verified.

Beautiful, educational, and well loved by our fam
The media could not be loaded. The illustrations in this book are so beautiful. There are a few sections that review different aspects of sea creatures (fins and flippers for example) and then there are 2ish pages each dedicated to a variety of different sea creatures - some well known, others less so. There are 4-6 facts included about each of the different animals featured. The authors also included a search and find aspect, so there is a sardine hiding on something like 14 different pages, plus they ask you to find certain things on specific pages. That has been a fun activity for my 4yo to stay excited and engaged. This is not a story, just facts and illustrations about sea creatures. We typically pick a few pages at a time to read through, then do some of the seek and find activities. My 2yo and 4yo are both ocean lovers and they cannot get enough of this book. There's so much to see and learn, I can see us enjoying it for years to come.
