Mark E IndustriesStandard Shower Kit SSK-401 "GOOF PROOF SHOWER"

I would recommend this kit for any do-it-yourselfer like me, who doesn't have experience creating a shower pan from scratch. I was really leery of attempting this project myself, especially getting the floor sloped to the drain from all sides correctly, but this kit gave me the confidence to do it, and it turned out really well. The tapered plastic sticks make the mortar work almost a no brainer, but they are a little flexible, and tend to bend side to side with the weight of the mud. Care must be taken to keep them straight, especially if you fill and finish each section one at a time, like I did. The Kirb Perfect kit was a snap to install and really easy to trowel the mortar into. I feel like I ended up with a quality installation despite having never done anything like this before.

Great product, easy to use, simple to follow directions for each step in a brochure form. Cannot tell you about the included DVD, as mine as been tossed around loose in box and was so scratched it would not play. You can find the videos all on the manufacture's website - phew! Takes a lot of hassle out of setting up your shower floor for tiling!

Product does what it was designed to do. I modified my installation as I already had a pre-slope under my liner and did not use the sticks for that. The fast pitch seems to not be as I expected as recommended bed layer is 1 1/2” and using them would have given me about 1” at highest point. I poured a bedding of 1 1/2” and used the sticks to guide and used a level to finish off. The curb kit was exactly what I needed. Drain ring and weep plastic unit worked great. Next time I will skip all the bedding steps and use weidi product cost a lot up front but you put it together and tile same day. Kurdi can’t do that

This worked out really well and made it much easier for the amateurs that helped DIY install a custom tile shower for me. The water travels down the pitch to the drain perfectly and everything went smoothly thanks to how easy this was to use. I am very glad we used it and am thrilled with the results.

For a major house remodel I did three new showers using these kits. Showers turned out OK but I probably would not use it again. I'm a visual learner and the videos on the website while good, did not match the product I received. The product was slightly different and the directions were different from the video so I wasn't 100% sure which one to follow. Also used the Kirb Perfect product from the same company and could not get the pieces to fit together like the video shows....had to improvise a bit. Like I said, my showers turned out OK but was a bit frustrated using this product...

This was my first time attempting a job like this. I did a lot of research and stumbled across this product from Mark E and decided to give it a shot. I figured anything to make the job easier since it was my first time attempting a shower mud job. I had a ton of questions so called and emailed Mark E and received some of the best customer support I have ever experienced. They stand behind what they sell 100% and that says a lot. The install went pretty smoothly but I did screw up a couple places simply by not following the instructions so closely because it just seemed easy enough to figure it. That's when I emailed them and got super quick responses with corrections and advice on what I had done wrong. Needless to say I am completely satisfied with this kit and would definetely recommend and purchase again for my next shower!

I've used this product in two homes now. The first was for a remodel, and that went flawlessly. For this last purchase, I used it in new construction, and again, it worked perfectly. I really can't find anything negative to report about the Goof Proof Shower kit. It is a very well thought out product, a fantastic invention.

What they don't tell you very clearly is the included QPK-101 Quick Pitch standard kit now includes a "non-universal" standard center ring which won't work with larger or square drains. Bought this kit before and it did have the universal ring so I thought I was OK to recommend it to my in-laws to install a new shower, but no. Sorta odd since the illustration on the QPK-101 packaging still shows a square drain being used???Didn't find this out until I was ready to install -- losing days while waiting for the Universal Center Ring which you apparently now have to order separately (or maybe there is a kit that includes it, but apparently not this one anymore!)Talked to Mark at Mark E, whose attitude was "oh yeah that's the standard kit and that's the way it is to let people save money if they don't need the universal ring." Makes sense at some level, certainly. He did not seem too concerned that they don't tell anyone that the product has changed from the past, or else it is a different product among the dizzying array of ways that the various component kits are packaged. So a glass-half full (or half-empty if you prefer) response from the manufacturer on this....Other than that, I'd give this whole product line 5+ stars. They install easily and make the shower installation a breeze, especially if you use a liquid paint-on waterproofer, vice the vinyl pan liner.
