The Little SAS Book for Enterprise Guide 4.2

Good Book, Poor Kindle Formatting
Unfortunately, there is no way to separate the review for the contents of the book from the format of the book. As a result, I have to give 3 starts to this book.I liked the way this book was organized. It started with brief tutorials that helped you get a feel for the how SAS Enterprise Guide works and then it has a reference section where you get more in-depth details of the product. This book is definitely recommended if you are starting to learn SAS Enterprise Guide. Even though it indicates version 4.2, I have not found it a problem when I am using version 5.1 of the product. I am assuming that there are some newer features which this book probably does not cover. My biggest gripe is with the kindle format of this book. I have purchased other technical books in kindle format and have noticed that there are sometimes problems in the way the books are formatted with screenshots and associated text not lining up properly. However, with this book, its a much bigger issue. The fonts are all over the place. The pages dont flow smoothly. There are numerous instances of the top half of the letters appearing on one page and the bottom half of the letters appearing on the next page. You then have to piece together what the line probably indicates. There are some random text that appear in the book too. eg: location 2413 has some random text formatting information which I presume is the internal kindle information appearing in the book.I would recommend sticking to the print edition of this book.

Well-Organized book
I own the little SAS book by the same author(s) and the enterprise guide is way better structured.I was hesitating to buy it at first because of the experience with the little SAS book, but when I received this one, I was very happy to own it.It is easy to follow and there are practice data sets available online.Definitely a good reference book.I hope they will issue one describing advanced statistical procedures using SAS in future.Recommended.

A source that's very accesible & easy to learn from!
This is a great intro book for beginners I highly recommend it. If you are looking to start from scratch or go from beginner to intermediate this is an awesome book for that.It could use more in-depth material for advanced cacluations/filters in the query builder. Then also, a chapter on report automation would be nice because that is one of the main benefits of using SAS EG vs other software.

Excellent for mainframe programmer transition to SAS EG
I was mainframe SAS programmer quite a few years ago and recently got a project to convert mainframe programs to web in SAS Enterprise Guide. This book helped me to transition from mainframe to web SAS in a very short time. Before encountering this book, I tried other Little SAS books, but this was by far easier to learn as it is specific to Enterprise Guide.

Top Notch
Prior to purchasing this book I knew nothing about Enterprise Guide. Within 3 days, using this book as an aid, and working with the online help in SAS, I was able to generate useful information on the job. Found only a few minor flaws in the book, which were no big deal. Awesome entry level guide. A++

Great Book for SAS Beginners
You will not find a more excellent book for beginners trying to get a working knowledge of SAS. Once you hit the ground running, you will want a more advanced book, but this will get you started in a very short time.

Do not buy this unless you just want a hardcopy text
Not a very good book for learning SAS or as a reference. You can get just as much from the online help and references that are free.
