Following a recent botched surgery, I was less than thrilled to find out I'll be spending the rest of my life as a gimp. But I figure if I have no choice, I'm going to at least do it in style! I went through four or five canes before finding this one. It's my second "Harvey" brand Derby cane; they're both excellent. But this one truly stands out from the pack. The workmanship, especially at this price point, is VERY nice! Both the cane and the detachable brass handle look and feel substantial and well-crafted.I've read some reviews stating that the cane doesn't feel well balanced (meaning the handle is too heavy in relation to the cane). I didn't find this to be the case, however. I was able to use it, once I shortened it an inch or so, without any trouble. It feels completely natural, or as natural as walking on "three legs" is ever gonna feel.As to its appearance, this baby really shines! (Both literally and figuratively.) It's almost too "dressy" for everyday jeans and T-shirt use, but I have my other Derby cane -- which is very similar to this one, only with a wooden handle and chestnut stain -- for that. This one I'll save for date night with the missus and evenings at the opera. I've never gone the opera before, but now that I have this cane, who knows? Can a tux be far behind?At 200-plus pounds and nearly six feet in height I'm no lightweight. I rely on the cane to provide some real support here; it's not just a cosmetic affectation. It seems more than up to the task, at least so far. Finally, as I mentioned earlier, the cane and handle are both quite substantial. In the unlikely event someone should try to relieve me of my wallet or give me grief over being a gimp, it would serve admirably, I'm sure, as a means of dissuasion.

This is my first derby cane and my second Harvey cane and I am very happy with it. Everything about it spells quality. The cane shaft is in two pieces and is perfectly aligned when put together. The cane is made of maple, which makes it very sturdy. The solid brass embossed handle is really cool looking!!! I have had back problems since 1975, and when I got up this morning my back was out of place again and I used one of my other canes to walk with. When I received my derby cane in the late afternoon, I took it for a short walk and it works fine for me. I weigh around 200 lbs. Very pleased with this purchase.

Very solid and reliable product

Being a large man, 6'2" and 240, I was worried about both the length and strenght of the cane before it arrived. No more, this cane is both long and strong. I put a lot of pressure on it at times as I walk a 110 pound Rhodesian Ridgeback who gets antsy when she has to do her business and this is as solid as a rock.The cane is also beautifully crafted. It is exceptional as it is only around $20 more than one of the aluminum jobs which make you look like a pauper. I highly recommend this cane as it has both utility and fashion value.

I am a big fellow (around 250) and this is about the only Derby stick we big men can use. The painted maple looks great, but gets a little bruised with every single day use. However, the paint wears like iron. The tip is lighter than what I use, but those replace cheep. If you don't want a derby cane to break you can't go much cheaper, and this one has gone through the torture test of a WI winter with a fat guy using it. Great cane great look, and the derby style was designed to be easy on the hands. Ball head canes nearly put me into surgery for carpel tunnel, but this cane is great even for my arthritis.

Nice touch with the brass handle (I get plenty of compliments) . After using it daily the handle does tend to loosen where I need to tighten it as walking. The black stick also shows scratches ( touch it up w a sharpee or black nail polish)

Wonderfully made ,this cane is a very nice piece of work. The design,look and feel is superb.The quality is great durable sturdy and strong. The purchase was a gift for a person height being 6'2. My concern was that the cane would be too short and possibly cheap looking but it was the perfect fit.This same came cost about 10.00 more in other places but I found it on amazon much cheaper. Glad I purchased it and am very happy with the purchase. I would refer anyone looking for a great looking great quality durable came to this company's for this product.

Its just the right length, the handle is well made and comfortable and doesn’t cause my hand to cramp like most others I’ve tried
